Having problems with your Vacuums ?

My shop vac is plugged. The hose is clear. The filter is removed. The filter bag is not installed. It still won't draw a suction. It sounds like it is plugged. The motor whines at a higher-than-usual pitch. What can I do?

Answers :

Turn off the vac, take the head off of it and remove the filter paper. Inside, there's a white ball (bigger than golf ball, smaller than baseball) that's inside a cage. This is designed to keep water out of the blower when the vac tips over, and should drop down into the cage when you turn the vac right-side-up.

Sounds like the ball is stuck up against the motor -- just poke it loose so it drops down into the cage again, then reassemble your vac.

If the ball has dirt or something sticky on it, you'll probably want to clean it off so you don't have to do this process every time it tips over.

I have a new Hoover BH50015 hand vac. The noise is terrible. It sounds like the bearing are bad. When you take off the cup and the filter and listen to the motor as it slows down after turning it off it definitely sounds like bad motor bearings. Hoover tells me the loud noise is normal. I'm not really a technician, but I used to sell Filter Queens and was taught how to maintain them, and have tackled "fixing" some problems. I am a 71 year old great-grandmother of 8, but have good health and am very active. The Filter Queen I have is r, usedeally old, and I have kept it up. Just this week, however, I turned it on and it had a noise which sounds like something might be loose in the motor. I have always been very careful to have a clean hepa filter to protect the motor, so I know

Recently my central vac system started making a louder than usual and laboured sound when in uise, enough so that I took note and inspected the canister and motor while running. The motor was trowing off blue sparks and looked like it could 'POP' at any moment. I will not risk using it until I know what the problem is and how to repair it. My assumption is the motor needs to be replaced. The system came with the resale house I bought 3 yrs ago but I do not know the age of the system itself.

I have a mile tt2000 that works fine up to 1300W but if I crank it up higher the motor decreases and increases speed every couple of seconds. I have changed the bag and filters and done the usual cheCks for blockages but can find nothing amiss. Unusually when it is running and I block the intake it will run at full power but as soon as I clear it the motor "hunts" again. Any ideas.

My A 2045 Karcher vacuum's suction is really weak and the motor seems to be working VERY hard. The motor sounds like it used to when the vacuum fell over and went into overdrive! I have a Filter Queen Majestic 360 and am having problems with the powerhead. There is a loud rattling noise in the powerhead, especially when I vacuum thicker carpet. I have replaced the motor, roller brush, and belt, but the rattling remains. It sounds like it is coming from the roller brush area, and when I turn the powerhead over, it rolls free and sounds fine. Any thoughts?

I bought a Kenmore canister vacuum, model 116, in April 2007. This morning, the sound of the motor suddenly began to deepen, and I began to lose suction. Normally, if something is clogging the hose, the motor will wind up to a higher pitch, not a lower one. The filters are clean, the bag is empty, and I can't detect anything lodged in the hose. If this were a car's engine, I would say it's "lugging down". Any pointers?

Okay, bear with me. Is it possible you have a suction adjustment, dial somewhere on vac. Check and see and if it does, be sure it's all the way up. Also, try removing hose and run a broom handle fr. one end to the other...BUT be careful not to stretc ... Vacuums

Dry vac will **** water normally, than the motor makes a higher pitched sound and stops suction. Does this have anything to do with the filter si since it is in bad shape and hasn't been replaced?

One day I was vacuuming and it sounded like something went up inside somewhere and the motor, I assume,..... is frozen ..all it does is hum when I turn it on! I have changed the belt, filter and checked and cleaned all hoses... what could this be? THANK YOU, Gail

It's likely something got into the fan, is stuck there, is preventing the fan from turning, and so prevents the motor running. There's a good possibility the motor burned out because of this. Motor seems like it is overworking. The sound of the vacuum is higher pitched than before.

I liked the vacuum and bought a second, 1 year later the motor is making a slight noise that and removing the HEPA filter I find a slight metall

That dust is from the carbon brushes on the motor. You may need to check them, and also clean out the motor compartment. A slight noise could be a motor bearing starting to go. Does the smell like rubber or electrical. If rubber, then the belt h ... Vacuums

Dead motor? My 8 year old Miele S251i has worked fine, until I was recently vacuuming and moved the plug from one outlet to another. When I restarted the vacuum, it made rrrrr.....rrrrrr....rrrrr noises and smelled like something was burning. I turned it off, and it's shown no signs of life since. Sound like a motor problem? Does the hoover runabout u427-930 have a filter? I replaced the belt and next to the light bulb was a square gray mat that looked like a filter covering a screen full of holes that looked like the motor was behind. I think it was a mat of cat hair so I took it off and threw it away; I just want to make sure that it wasn't a filter that I need to replace.

From doing a search on the internet and hoovers website it looks as if this unit does not have a filter. Such as a hepa that needs to be replaced or that is washable. So i think you are safe and dont need to worry about it. ... Hoover Elite U5061-900 Bagged Upright Vacuum

I have a NUTONE central vac, when I turn on the power, It sounds like its grinding glass and doesnt suction. Could it be that broken glass got caught in the motor and all I need to do is clean it, or is this the sound of a failed motor?

More likely it's something in the fan. However, I suggest taking it to a vacuum repair shop to make sure. Something could have got into the fan system and is making a racket, but the motor itself won't crunch up glass. ... Electrolux Central Vacuum
