Having problems with your Vacuums ?

After being used to **** up quite a bit of flood water on basement carpet, the motor races and nothing seems to work.

Hello,

First, you'll need to take apart your vacuum cleaner. Vacuums come in \015\012two types: the upright vacuum and the canister vacuum. With the upright \015\012vacuum, you push the entire thing around to clean. The canister vacuum \015\012sits in one spot and you simply move the hose. To take apart an upright \015\012vacuum, unplug the vacuum and remove the screws from the handle. Take \015\012off the handle and the hose if yours has one. Remove the screws from the\015\012 bottom and lift off the top cover of the vacuum. For a canister vacuum,\015\012 unplug it and take off the hose, dust bag and the filter. Simply remove\015\012 the screws and lift off the lid. If the filter is dirty, make sure to \015\012replace it before reassembling the vacuum.\015\012\011\011\011\011\011\011

The beater bar is the casing in the front of the vacuum that has the \015\012brush inside of it. After taking off the clips at the ends of the beater\015\012 bar, you should be able to move the drive belt and take the beater bar \015\012out. Open it up and see if the brush looks worn down. If it is, replace \015\012it. If there is any hair or other debris tangled around it, cut it loose\015\012 with scissors. This debris can keep it from turning properly and may \015\012fix your problem. Reinstall the piece and the drive belt and see if it \015\012works.

Another common problem is the drive belt of the vacuum cleaner. To \015\012remove the drive belt, you'll only need to remove one of the clips from \015\012the beater bar and loosen the drive belt until it is free of the beater \015\012bar and the motor. If it looks worn, cracked, or broken, buy a new drive\015\012 belt. Install it around the beater bar and the motor like the original \015\012was before you took it out. Note that the new drive belt will not have \015\012been stretched out yet and may look like it's a different size than the \015\012old, stretched drive belt.\015\012\011\011\011\011\011\011\015\012

Finally, inspect the attachments of the vacuum before trying it. Use a \015\012stick or a long, thin pole to push any objects out of the hose \015\012attachments. Wash and thoroughly dry the various hoses and attachments \015\012to clear them of dirt and debris. Make sure they are completely dry \015\012before using the vacuum to prevent getting shocked. Once the vacuum is \015\012reassembled, do a short test run. If you're still having a problem \015\012sucking up dirt or getting the attachments to work properly, call a \015\012professional to fix it. If it is cheaper, you may want to buy a new one \015\012instead.\015\012\011\011\011\011\011\011\015\012
Take care.

Water is not being discharged. I have filled the reservoir that holds the carpet cleaner fluid And I have filled the water container. I know how to use the cleaner, it has always worked, But now, no water is being discharged to the carpet. I turn it on, squeeze the trigger, but nothing comes out. The wheel that is suppose to spin (to indicate that water is being discharged) is not spinning. Everything else works. I.e. the suction works, and the hand held accessories work.

Our kenmore progressive model #11634922 was working fine today. And then - it's not. Plugged in - nothing is working on it. We let it cool down (though it didn't seem hot). Still nothing - no light, no motor. Tried it in some other plugs that we know are functioning well - and still nothing. Any idea what might be wrong with it? It's six years old but doesn't get heavy use. Thanks so much ~ Susan Golden

My Kirby shampooer - G4 - hardly used any water from the tank and no suds at all. The small screen was stuck in the crook of the hose that attached to the tank so I did get that out and put it on the small hole on the tank, but it didn't make any difference. I

I have a Bissell Pro 2x carpet cleaner. The water heats properly as well as spraying the cleaning product. However, when I go to suction the water from the carpets, the 2 in 1 water tank bladder works properly but there is no dirty water outside the bladder.
