Cord replacement I need to replace a damaged cord (the reel works). How do I get the top off so I can remove the back end? Once I get it off, will I be able to change the cord, or do I need to buy the whole reel assembly? (and thanks for the help - I love this site!)

You will probably have to replace the whole reel cord. Depending on your model, on each side, there is a bar in the middle that will slide off, then the 2 halfs will come apart. They will only slide in one direction. If an older model, there are s ... Electrolux Lux 5500 Canister Vacuum

I just bought a westinghouse unplugged vacuum cleaner.( It is new) The design is awesome, and when it works it works great . But it has very short battery life. 1 battery lasts only about 5 minutes, and the other is even less. I did all the instructions told me as far as conditioning and charge yet I still do not get a very solid amount of vacuuming time. Is there any thing I can do?

Dear Sir/Madam, My old faithful Hamilton Beach Mixer, now 60 years old, is still working but recently I was told by someone who looked at the motor that it needed repair or replacement. Is it still possible to get it in working condition?

If the armature shaft is worn there might be a problem, but that would be about the only one, Bushes/bearings can be replaced as can brushes. If the armature shaft is worn, a fix can be formulated but it will require some ... Vacuums

The bottom bar that encases the brush is flush to the floor when using the vacuum. This causes the suction to "stick" the vacuum to the floor (lamenate) and also as there is no ground clearance debris is just pushed around. We have to nearly stand the thing upright to get the ground clearance to be enough for things to start being sucked up. I have taken apart, re-assembled etc and nothing is working.

I'm having the same problem.  The bottom plate is not level with the floor unless the vacuum is nearly in the upright position.  Its like there should be a spring pushing the bottom plate towards the floor.  Anyone know how to fix this ... Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

Oreck XL21 just will not work at all any more. Beater is clean - belt is fine. Fresh bag - inflates. Took the thing apart - checked for blockages at intake, bag entry, and the tube. It just doesn't vacuum anything. No suction at all for anything stronger than air. I'd say it doesn't ****, but that would be ironic. Are these known for just "quitting" after a while? We take it in for maintenance as recommended to replace filters, etc. Is there some miracle trick to make it work or sho

Did you make sure the brush turns freely? Even though it is clean, if it does not turn freely with the belt, it will not beat the carpet and pull debris up into the unit.\015\012\015\012Another (drastic?) thing to try would be to take the unit ... Vacuums

I also have a Hoover upright and I need to replace the electrical cord. I have dimantled the back, where the tools are stored, and the hose. I still cannot find the screws or whatever, to get to the area behind the cord, so I can replace it. I think I will have to take off the bottom too. Has anyone out there tried to do this? It seems crazy. This machine works great so I hope I can also put it back together. Thanks for the help.

I am also having the same problem - it will not dispense the cleaning fluid - it is more work trying to get the thing to work than it is actually cleaning the floor.
