I have needles snapping and bobbin tangle - Vacuums

Try to repair in this order.
\015\012
\015\0121) Your machine likely needs oil. Especially put a few drops of oil on the outside edge of your bobbin holder.
\015\012
\015\0122) Try replacing your needle if you have some spares. If you are using a decorative thread (metalized) use a needle with a teflon lining on the eye (called metallic thread needle).
\015\012
\015\0123) Try buying a better quality thread. Do not use generic thread in a sewing machine (i.e. "made in cheap country" with no brand name)

It could be oiling, as Mark T suggests. It really isn't too likely, but its too easy a fix to pass up.

It could be thread quality as Mark T suggests. Thread with slubs or lumps that snag the eye of the needle could cause the problem you describe, but you're likely to have noticed thread bad enough to break needles. Thread that bad is uncommon. Cheap thread usually frustrates sewers by breaking itself rather than the needle.

It could be that you are trying to sew with a thread too heavy to pass easily through the needle, or in leather, PVC, or heavy denim or canvas dragging on the needle thread and bending the needle sideways so that it it struck by the hook as it passes, and broken. In addition to the above re: decorative thread, use a leather needle for leather PVC, vinyl. Use a heavier needle with a larger eye for heavy denim or canvas, or for heavy thread. Sewers usually have a good eye for details, but since the needle bends when its down through the fabric and below the throat plate you may not have noticed. If the needle thread sometimes looks a little frayed or beaten up when you stop the stitch this is probably happening.

It could be you are installing the needle backward with the chamfer / recess on the wrong side. The needle has a flat that fits a flat in the reces it fits into, but its often possible to insert it the wrong way. Likewise you could have threaded the needle back to front instead of front to back. You aren't likely to have done either of these things several times in a row without noticing that you had, so this probably isn't the cause of your present difficulty.

The machine may have become be mis-timed. If the set screw works loose, of he machine jams or breaks a needle for some other reason, the timing may slip, and then its likely to continue jamming and breaking needles because the timing is wrong. Open the bobbin case and remove the bobbin assembly and watch - the thread hook should pass close by the eye of the needle and pull the thread around the bobbin case after the needle gets to the bottom as it just starts to lift taking just a little of the tension off the needle thread opening a gap for the hook. If the timing is incorrect, then you may need to have the machine repaired or repair it yourself. There are instructions on the internet for how to re-time simple mechanical sewing machines, and adjusting the timing of the thread hook to the needle is not difficult. If you sew you have the required hand-eye coordination and attention to detail for the job, but it requires some mechanical skill to remove all the covers and then to reassemble the machine and a parts or assembly diagram is helpful.

Jun 24, 2010 - Jun 24, 2010 - Needle not bent/ new needle not answer. I finally conclude that the entire bobbin case is ROTATING in its seat, which jams the needle. Bobbin case MIGHT get held in place better if it were closer to me (front of machine). I feel it is still not out from under needle plate as shown in diagram, but can't keep it closer to f

I have a Kenmore 385.19110 model machine, and the straight and zig zag stitches work just fine, but when I follow the directions in the manual to do a satin stitch (which is use the lowest stitch length) it creates a line that isn't perfect, or uniform, and after an inch or two stops catching the bobbin underneath. When trying to wind a bobbin, I do what I've always done, turn the small round "wheel" on the right, slide the bobbing into the little knob that keeps it in place and gently press the foot thing on the floor that should start the bobbing to winding. The bobbin does not turn at all causing a loud whirring sound and the needle goes up and down as if it were making stitches. I finally got some thread onto the bobbin but it is not smooth and looks like a spider. I really nee

So, I was sewing along and heard a thump...kind of sounded like a louder version of what you hear when the needle hits a pin...but I wasn't using pins. This, of course, lead to the thread jamming so I had to clear that. When rethreading I pulled out the bobbin case to make sure it was seated correctly and found a kind of "v" shaped piece of wire (about the width of a paper clip I guess) sitting loose under the bobbin case. I took it out and threw it away. Still can't pull up the bobbin threa
