Hoover Handle Release Pedal Replacement--How is it possible?

\015 Sir,\015\012\015\012I have a hoover u6634-900. Momma broke the handle release pedal, so it flops and is very hard to use. I found a replacement part on the internet, but cannot figure out how to get the cover off and/or get to the section where I can replace the part. Additionally, I bought the idler arm lock because the name made it sound like it should be replaced...but I don't know if that is necessary.\015\012\015\012Thanks a million if this all makes sense.\015\012\015\012Mike "Hi Ho" Silver\015

If you look at the picture, the slots are right across from the drive wheels, you can see the slots in the picture. Use a flat blade screwdriver.
Remove the brush roll, then there 3 screws to remove from the bottom. Then on each side there is a slot, use a flat blade and push on them, then the top rill come loose. That idler arm lock is # 4 in the picture and the knob holds it in place, unless it came off, you don't need to replace it. The handle release #6, there 2 tabs that fit into a holder on each side, stick your screw driver in there and try to twisp and pry it out from the holders, then pop in the new one.
