Why does my vacuum leave a trail of hair on my floors when it's being pulled backward but suction up fine when it's going forward?

It is because the belt is worn and stretched. when you go forward there isn' t as much resistance and the brush can turn and pick up, but when you go back there is more resistance and doesn't pick up. You simply need to replace the belt. Here is the ... Eureka 5849A Boss Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

Lately, my Kirby Ultimate G has been acting funny. When I push it forward, it's fine, but when I pull it backward on the carpet, the light on the front flickers and the power flutters off an on. I thought it might be the rollers, so tonight I turned the machine over and pulled out the hair that was wrapped around the roller. However, that did not fix the problem. I should probably backtrack a little bit. In the past, I have had problems with the vacuum running over its own power cord.

The cord will need to be replaced with a cord made for the machine, as it has a non-standard plug. The cord cover is held in place with a # 20 Torx screw. Remove the screw and push the cover gently from behind to unlatch it. The handle must also be r ... Kirby Ultimate G Bagged Upright Vacuum

I have a self propelled Royal Dirt Devil vacuum model number 087900 and it goes backward fine but forward has to be pushed so hard it's impossible. Is this a switch? Do you know about how much the part would cost and can it be done by a beginner. We fix a lot of things ourselves but we aren't mechanics by no means. We put a brand new belt on it. I don't think it can be put on backwards and brush turns fine. Where is the switch? Use layman's terms.

You might try a new belt and/or brush roll. The brush roll is what helps pull a vacuum forward, the power drive helps, but if the brush isn't turning like it should, then it will hinder forward motion. The belt may look ok, but they stretch to the ... Vacuums

I have an animal dyson. The front nose dives into the carpet when moving the dyson in the forward motion, fine when pulling back. A huge amount of effort is required to move it forward. Took it to a technician and he said he could find nothing wrong. He had only short nap carpet for test. Works fine on short nap, if the carpet nap has any lenght to it like shag, the dyson severly nose dives. It's like the nose is sucked into the carpet. My Bissell BS3920F upright (similar to the 10N6F) has been working wonderfully for the past 3 years but suddenly seems to not pick up dog hair as well as it used to. It has been pulled apart by my husband to ensure nothing is blocking the hoses etc and when running the suction seems to be there. It seems to grab the dog hair and leave it in a straight line directly under the unit without picking it up. I then disconnect the hose and use to hose to pick up the dog hair. G5 Kirby. Works in Neutral fine. When Drive is engaged and I push forward, the wheels do not rotate forwards, however on the pullback stroke the wheels rotate backwards. What causes this? Last night as I was vacuuming, I noticed that the belt stop indicator light was on. I pulled out the hair that had gotten tangled around the brush in hopes of solving the problem. It didn't change things. I then unscrewed the entire bottom piece to take out the brush roller. I removed hair from the end piece of the brush roller and reattached the belt; however, I cannot figure out where the microchip is supposed to go so that I can reassemble the base piece by screwing it back together. I took the cover off the brush so I could cut off all the hair that was wrapped around it (vacuum was working fine, I just noticed the hair). I pulled the brush/spinner thing off one side, cleaned everything, popped it back in where it belonged, and tried to make sure the belt was in the proper alignment.
