Having problems with your Bissell 1695 PowerSteamer Vacuum ?

My bissell powersteamer model 1695 does not spray enough water out. Hardly anything will come out of the handheld attachment either, just a few drips. With the floor unit, it appears the only water coming out is a result of gravity when the control is squeezed. Nothing appears to be plugged up with debrie or deposits. There does not appear to be any kind of drive belt for the pump as it seems to operate off the main vacuum motor. Any ideas?

  1. Referring to this assembly diagram check part 17 the timing belt. I can't tell from the drawing but this belt may have something to do with pump operation.
  2. \015\012
  3. Check part 39 the pump tubing for any signs of problems.
  4. \015\012
  5. If the pump is part of the motor assembly meaning it is directly driven by the motor shaft, if possible separate the pump assembly from the motor for inspection. The pump is most likely a diaphram pump, the rubber diaphram me have collapsed, or worn out.
  6. \015\012
  7. I noticed that there is a bridge rectifier diode part 35 as part of the electrical supply circuit. This indicates that there is a component that requires DC current. The rectifier diode converts AC house current to DC 12 volts most likely. If there is a separate pump motor that is yet to be located, it probably operates on this 12 volt DC power. It is possible that the rectifier diode is bad.

    \015\012
  • If you are knowledgeable about electronics, and have a multimeter you can test the rectifier diode. If you choose to do this USE CAUTION because you will need to have the cord plugged in to do this test. DO NOT touch any of the wiring, or terminals with any part of your body or you could be shocked. DO NOT allow any bare wires, or terminals to short to eachother.
  • \015\012
  • With the multimeter set to the DC volts scale connect the test leads to the 2 terminals of the diode part 35 that are NOT connected to the AC power cord. You should get a reading of approximately 12 volts. If not the diode is probably bad.
