Rainbow Vacuum, about 5 yrs old (bought new, no issues prior) - my 6yr old tipped it on it's side while water was in basin. Now when I turn the power on, it makes a very loud sound in the motor and you can feel the vibration on the floor. The suction still works and basin still catches dirt - the noise is just so loud and I'm not sure if I should continue use or how to fix -?

Although a wet/dry vacuum, it cannot tolerate water in the motor. Water will cause the motor to short out, which will cause the motor to act/sound like yours does now, if it continues working at all.\015\012To prevent additional problems, the ... Rainbow E series Canister Wet/Dry Vacuum

My rainbow tipped over and water got in the motor. I dried it out but it still won't work. Is there a fuse or anything that I have to reset? Suggestions?

The only thing I can tell you is that there is a thermal overload switch in the E series models. The water could have damaged it. As far as water getting into the motor itself it is very difficult to dry a rainbow out because they are so sealed. I ... Rainbow E series Canister Wet/Dry Vacuum

I just used my Bissell Proheat, when I heard the vacuum sound get lower and lower then suddenly something "gave" and it got very loud and started emitting a burnt rubber smell. It still worked to put liquid into the carpet; seemed to have trouble getting it out. I checked the tank, filters, belt, and roller and all seemed OK - but when I started up again and looked down I saw sparks in the motor/belt area and shut it down immediately. Any thoughts?

The bearing that is located at the top of the vacuum motor has failed . Because of that the shaft of the motor's rotor is out of position and the pulley attached to it has started rubbing on the other pulleys, giving you that smell. the spark appear ... Hello can you help me please? I have a Kirby G4 vacuum cleaner, It did work ok until it started to give off burning smell and lots of sparks from the brushes. I have changed these brushes, the motor still rotates but it still gives off sparks and burning smell. Do i have to change the motor as well? Can you help please? Thankyou Martin

Some debris, even sand or dirt, probably got into the motor, causing damage to the armature. If this is the case, you will need to replace the motor. The burning smell from the motor is generally a sure sign of a bad motor. ... Kirby G4 Bagged Upright Vacuum

Our kenmore progressive model #11634922 was working fine today. And then - it's not. Plugged in - nothing is working on it. We let it cool down (though it didn't seem hot). Still nothing - no light, no motor. Tried it in some other plugs that we know are functioning well - and still nothing. Any idea what might be wrong with it? It's six years old but doesn't get heavy use. Thanks so much ~ Susan Golden

I have a 6550 that just stopped working. I had the on/off switch tested to find out that it was dead. I replaced it and still the machine does not work. Could the wiring in the handle be bad? How do you test if the motor is still good?

I test a motor by taking an old vacuum cleaner cord with alligator clips on the ends and hook it up to the motor simply bypassing the entire vacuum cleaner. If it runs then I know the problem is not the motor. ... Simplicity Vacuums

Dear Sir/Madam, My old faithful Hamilton Beach Mixer, now 60 years old, is still working but recently I was told by someone who looked at the motor that it needed repair or replacement. Is it still possible to get it in working condition?

How can I get my DAB radio working again? I have a Sony XDRS100CD with DAB radio. The DAB radio has stopped working although I can still use the CD and get FM radio. The unit has a readout on the front that usually shows the time and this stopped working too, presumably because it got the time via the DAB radio. The unit works from mains and batteries although I have only ever used it on mains.

The motor in my Powermate (Kenmore Canister 116.27614700) is whining, high pitched, but still works. A local shop told me the motor is dying (the one in the Powermate that drives the beater bar) and would cost $150 for them to repair. The machine is only 1.5 years old and I paid $300...yikes. I think I can fix it but don't understand why the foam gasket that apparently wraps around the motor costs as much as the motor. This is assuming that part 32 (ks747156) is the foam I see glued to my cur

Not exactly a blow gun. Convertible blower/vac - Sears Craftsman. Wire broke off ONE brush in the motor. Paid about $90 for the vac - Sears lists the WHOLE motor as one part - $88. Have requested brushes (they are provided with a lot of my 'cheap' Harbor Freight tools) but no go. Just get the canned reply - buy the whole motor. Actually got it working again... CAREFULLY drilled and tapped a 4-40 screw into the brush and soldered the lead to that... Always a way, isn't there?

Miele Cat & Dog vacuum gets VERY hot and is VERY loud. Hose has no restrictions and I have changed the dust compartment (motor) filter and the exhaust filter. It still gets hot when I run it with the top open and all filters removed, so I'm guessing the problem is with the motor. Should I be going into the motor compartment? If so, what am I looking for?

Hi\015\012\015\012The fact that it gets very hot could be due to a number of issues.,but the fact that it started making a very loud noise at the same time suggests that there might be more problems maybe brushes etc.\015\012\ ... Miele S514 Solaris Bagged Canister Vacuum
