One of the responses mentioned the Bissell Spotlifter., being something of an expert on steam cleaning lately. As a tool,\015\012it has a very narrow opening...allegedly you have to sprary the\015\012solution out the front, and then hold the machine at a 45 degree angle\015\012to get the suction going. It's very difficult to tell if you're getting\015\012the fluid back off the carpet at that point in time, so you're left to\015\012ponder whether the stain is going up.\015\012\015\012Unfortunately, touching the area on the floor covered in whatever\015\012substance you don't want to go near, seems to be the way to evaluate if\015\012it's working. You also need to apply substantial pressure to feel as if\015\012it's working.
\015\012Add to this, the fact that carpet fibers tend to get in it, and gunk up\015\012the works. To be fair, it's really easy to pull the brush section out,\015\012but your fingers must then untangle the fibers, which are, again,\015\012covered in something disgusting you don't want on you.
\015\012\015\012The one spot where the Bissell is really helpful, is the sides of\015\012stairs. You can actually steam clean a vertical surface, which is close\015\012to impossible with any of the full size power steamers.

Hoover Windtunnel U5750-900 Agitator brush is weak. It turns fine if I tilt the vacuum back, but it slows to almost 1/4 speed when it touches carpet, even on the highest carpet setting. I've replaced the agitator belt twice. The brush used to turn powerfully even on the lowest (Hard Floor) setting. Ideas? I should probably lube the agitator brush ball bearings, and re-check the belt, but, other than that, I'm stumped.

It sounds as though a belt is rubbing or slightly off-track. The sound is extremely loud. We've removed the plate around the brush bar, made sure the brushes are free of dog hair, and found that the belt appears to be on track. What should we try now? We haven't tried to use it to check for suction for fear of doing real damage! Thank you. Marcia VanDyne
