Dirt Devil R088100. Cloth Was Sucked Into Hole Below Dirt Holder

\015 Hi All, A Lite Cloth Was Sucked Into A Hole Below The Dirt Collection Aria On The Left Side Of My Dirt Devil Model R088100, That Is The Left Side While Facing it. \015\012\015\012 After Part Of The Cloth Was Sucked In, The Motor Slowed And I Turned It Off. I Managed To Pull Most Of The Cloth Out And Turning It On again And It Emitted A Burning Smell And Then Stopped. \015\012\015\012 My Question For You, (If You Can Help Me): Is The Motor Fried Or Is It The Cloth That Is Heating Up, Burning, And Stopping The Machine? If It Is The Cloth, How Do I Open Up The Dirt Devil And Get The Cloth Out. Thanks Brad\015

Brad, Hopefully it is the belt that you smell burning. I would start by removing the underneath side of the vacuum head. Normally just a few screws that are meant to be remove for general maintanence and circumstances such as this. After removing the screws this should reveal the dirty side of life to you. You may need to remove the roller brush, and inspect the ends to make sure the brush rolls freely while holding the ends. If not the ends may need to be cleaned of hair and strings: ends should pop of and a shaft runs through the middle connecting them. Clean and replace. Move on up the path the dirt travels. The neck where the head and vacuum come together is the next jamming point, if this is where the cloth is lodged chances are the motor may have over heated due to clogging. Your vacuum may have a automatic shut off. You will need to contact Dirt Devil to see if there is a reset for the motor. There are propellers / fan blades at the end of the neck just before the motor housing. This is most likely where the clothe has logged itself causing the brushes on the electric motor to emit the burning smell, if you can remove all obstructions and the unit still does not turn on, check with dirt devil about the reset, Hope this helps.

Hi, I have a Dirt Devil Model # M08100REDC. I desperately need to change the bag, but I don't see an obvious way to do it. I'm afraid to try pulling on the cloth tab thingy that's just below the handle, between the rubber ring that holds the bag on the vac, because it seems like stuff will fly everywhere from the force required to remove it, and I might not be able to get it back on there. Should I just pull on that cloth tab until the bag comes off? Thanks, Roberta

You can pull on the tab to remove the bag, but probably a better way is to gently pull on the rubber ring that attaches the bag to the back of the vacuum body. It's probably the brush "kicking" the dirt out, rather than it being blown out. This happens if there's a clog in the airflow system somewhere. This could be anywhere from the power head above the brush to the tank where the hose connects.\01 ... Dirt Devil Vacuums
