I don't seem to get suction on the bare floor mode

\015 I don't seem to have suction when i put it on bare floor mode and wanted to know what could be the problem\015

There are several things that this could be. Probably the \012most common problem that we see when customers come in with this problem\012 is actually a fairly simple problem to fix. Here are just a few things \012that this could be.

The fist possible problem is a VERY common problem actually.

Possible Problem \012#1. The first problem is extremely common. In fact, we probably see \012between 2-3 of these problems every week. It mostly happens after people\012 take the bottom plate off the vacuum in order to clean the roller brush. What happens is when they reinstall \012the bottom plate, they put it on on incorrectly. It's actually very easy\012 to do. When the bottom plate (soleplate) is installed wrong, there will\012 be a gap between the bottom plate, and the agitator housing, or the \012purple tray the roller brush sits in. This will cause the soleplate to \012be a few inches higher off the ground then it should be, preventing the \012brushes from even hitting the carpet. This makes it seem to the user \012that vacuum has lost suction power because without the brushes hitting the \012carpet, the machine will not pick up very well on floors, but when they \012use the attachment hose there's plenty of suction power.

Here's a\012 picture of the WRONG way to install the bottom \012plate. Notice the gap in between the two housings:

Here's\012 another picture, that is the RIGHT way to install the soleplate:

I\012 would say probably 6 times out of 10 this is the problem with the \012customers machine. If you checked the soleplate and it is installed \012correctly, move on to the second possible problem.

Possible \012Problem # 2. Turn the vacuum cleaner upside down so the brush roller is facing upwards. I found the easiest \012way to work on it is to put it on a counter top or work bench. On the \012left hand side behind the roller brush you should see a flexible \012transparent hose that goes from the motor to the agitator housing. This \012hose actually has a lot of strain on it when the vacuum cleaner is in \012the reclined position. When the first few series of Dyson DC07 models \012came out, they didn't make this hose long enough, so when the vacuum was\012 in the reclined position, it would put too much stress on the hose, and\012 cause the hose to actually crack, usually right where the end of the \012hose that goes into the agitator housing. Examine your hose and see if \012you have any visible cracks in this hose. If you need to you may just \012remove the entire hose assembly by pulling on it. It will easily come \012right out of the machine so you can inspect it better. Here's a picture \012of where the hose usually cracks:

This\012 would also explain why the vacuum works fine when using the \012attachments, but not on the floors. The attachment hose uses a different\012 suction channel, and when the machine is in the upright position, no \012suction goes through this hose. If you do find a crack in this hose, the\012 this hose needs to be replaced. Here's a direct link to that hose on \012our GoVacuum website.
Dyson DC-07 & DC-14 Upright Replacement Internal Hose\012 Part # 904219

Possible Problem #3. I would \012suspect that this may not be the problem, but if neither of the solutions above worked, then try this one. Dyson's \012in general are prone to clogging. There are a few clog ports throughout \012the vacuum cleaner that were added there due to Dyson prototypes \012becoming clogged at these points. Here are pictures of how and where to \012check for these clogs. Simply remove the suction port covers at both of \012these locations:

If\012 you are getting suction power from the hose, but the vacuum still \012doesn't pick up on the floors, I think that these solutions should fix your problem. If you just \012replaced the clutch mechanism, the roller brush should be fine, but turn\012 the vacuum over on it's side and make sure that the roller brush is \012actually spinning while it's on carpet mode. If none of these problems \012fixed your Dyson, please use the Clarification Request, or leave another\012 comment here on the Fixya repair page, and I'll be happy to further \012diagnosis the vacuum cleaner with you.

We too were experiencing loss of suction with our Dyson DC07. After several failed attempts to diagnose and repair it myself, I finally gave in and took it to a vacuum specialty store. They immediately noticed that the bottom gasket to an internal component, the one with all the tiny holes in it, was missing. Though uncommon, they believe that it may have fallen off while emptying the canister and shaking dust out of the holes, simply falling into the trash barrel unnoticed. Since the gasket was not in place, further issues ensued. The filter(s) became excessively clogged, the upper housing was full of lint that was never intended to get there, and the motor would overheat. I was unable to find the gasket advertised on the Dyson sight but they do have an 800 number listed on the housing. Ordering it directly might save you a service charge.

Inspect the bottom lip to see if your gasket is still in place once you remove it from the clear housing.

Good luck
