Whiny motor, less suction

\015 The motor on my DC07 has become MUCH louder and whines, and the suction is much less. Do you have suggestions on troubleshooting?Dave\015

Its not unheard of that the lifetime filtration filter may need replacing and dust can work itself into the main motor chamber even though Dyson claim their models have sealed motors. Whiny motors however can happen for a number of reasons such as:
\015\012
\015\012
    \015\012
  • Over-use
  • \015\012
  • Motor bearings
  • \015\012
  • Strain on the motor from another source i.e. the drive belt may need replacing or the caps on the brush roller at each end need to be checked.
\015\012Have a look at the drive belt / sole plate to see if there is any dirt clogging the system. Also check the inspection pipes on the Dyson and check that nothing is obstructing the air waves. Sometimes even a new filter (bottom of the bin) cures the problem and this can easily be checked by taking out the filter for a couple of seconds and using the Dyson to check if suction is indeed stronger.

I'm trying to figure out which dyson vacuum is better, the DC14 or DC17. from what i read, the DC17 is the newer model of the DC14, the DC17 added an extra motor for the brush, but from the dyson site, the DC17 has less suction power. it went from 250AW (dc14) to 220AW (dc17). is that a significant difference that i should be worried about?

No suction I have the central vac type. It has no suction at the can. I pulled the hose going to the walls and tested there...and nothing. I removed the dirt can and checked the motor ...it is spinning but does not feel like any suction. I checked the exhaust and it is pushing strong air out. I also cleaned the filter and still nothing. I purchased a Eureka C4910 last year and have a question that I am hoping you can answer. There are two motor actions with this vacuum, 1) the vacuum suction, and 2) the beater bar. The action of the beater bar is that motor is supposed to automatically shut off when the handle is in the complete vertical position assuming the vacuum is stationary, but then turn on when the handle is tilted toward the floor, assuming the vacuum is moving back and forth. I bought a Kenmore canister vacuum, model 116, in April 2007. This morning, the sound of the motor suddenly began to deepen, and I began to lose suction. Normally, if something is clogging the hose, the motor will wind up to a higher pitch, not a lower one. The filters are clean, the bag is empty, and I can't detect anything lodged in the hose. If this were a car's engine, I would say it's "lugging down". Any pointers?
