My Dyson DC 14 is making the horrible "ratcheting"sound only when the brush is engaged on the carpet setting. I have cleaned the brush, so there are no obstructions, the canister is empty and properly on the unit. I checked to make sure all of the "traps" and hoses are clear of obstructions, the belt is on the brush securely and moves freely, the brush itself spins freely, but there is still the "ratcheting" noise. Any other suggestions?

Our DC33 was making the same ratcheting sound immediately upon placing the cleaner/brush head on the carpet. We carefully pulled the beater/brush bar out of the vacuum. Folks, My wife and I own a three-year-old Hoover U6434-900 self-propelled "Wind Tunnel" upright vacuum cleaner. The problem is that, even on the highest setting (front-end as high as possible), it gets bogged-down in even shallow pile carpet to the point that the brush stops. I've cleaned the machine thoroughly, pulling hair, thread, dental floss and such from the brush (and everywhere else), including unscrewing the brush end caps and pulling out the cat hair mats which formed in there.

I have a DC07 and the brush wasn't rotating and I had no suction at the brush but perfect suction through the hose. I noticed a large build up of dog hair around the brush so I took off the cover plate and removed all the hair, cleaned inside the floor/brush housing and cleaned out the hose. I also cleaned the filter and removed the other air access cover and made sure that they were clear. I put everything back and the brush still doesn't turn and there is still no suction through the bottom

How to disassemble the brush to empty anything that might be stuck inside of the brush? The motor seems to be overheating, all belts have been checked, all airways are clear and the filter is clean. The vacuum is vibrating and releasing a burning smell, but still sucking up dirt. There is nothing stuck on the outside of the brush, but is there a way to check inside of it to see if that is where a clog is occuring?

When I flip the switch on my sebo x1 upright, a red light comes to the brush and bag icons. The vacuum is making a noise like something is stuck when it is in the carpet position but not when in the floor position. I can't find anything that is stuck in the areas that I can see.
