As I turn on the brush there is a terrible noise vibrating all around the brush control knob. 1 small piece of metal appeared, 3mm cube, with tiny spring looking wire to it 3 mm long. Have read that if belt thing we need to repace the whole drive??thank you\015

Yes - it sounds very much as though the brush control clutch has disintegrated. It is possible for the keen amateur to fit a new one, but there's quite a bit of dismantling involved so it's not a job for the faint-hearted. If you want to get an idea of what's involved, go to www.dysonmedic.com then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "DC07 clutch replacement" where you will find an excellent illustrated guide.
