I work as a technition for vacuumspot.com.au & nelsonvacuums.com.au fixing vacuum cleaners. It is a common problem for turbine or turbo heads to slow down or stop altogether. I'll show you how to look after them and avoid costly replacement.

Start by turning the head over. I have marked the 3 points you need to undo to take off the base plate. Simply twist the 2 knobs and slide other catch in the centre of the head. The base plate should now lift off quite easily.

Have a good look in the spot where I have marked it is very common for dirt and fluff to stick to the sides of the rubber part in the middle. This can reduce the suction at the head and reduse cleaning effiency.

Now you have to pull the brushes out to the sides, they should come off easily. Clean really well around the shaft pay particular attention to any hair wound around the small gap marked. Anything caught here gradually works it's way to the bearing which sits just inside the housing here. If the bearing gets worn you have to replace the entire head as there are no spare parts for this tool. :(

DO NOT try and put a lubricant on the shaft, it will work for a short time but in the longer term it will only attract dust to the bearing.

This part is easy, just tap out the the dirt from inside the brushes. If you have another vacuum handy this will work well too. An air compressor will do the best job but make sure you direct it away from yourself.

Give the base plate a basic clean, there is normally not a lot of stuff here but if you get dirt caught around the edges it can affect haw well the plate seals to the rest of the head. One thing to take particular not of is the rubber seal that goes around the edge. It often gets dislodged, just poke it back in or if you have gasket adhesive put a small amount in the groove to hold it in place.

Now check the filter on the side. You only have to give it a wipe with your finger or a dry cloth to keep it clean.
There you have it all done. Simply pop the brushes back on making sure you put them on the side they came off. There is a little arrow marked on the brushes and centre of the head if you forget. Then put the baseplate back on and fix the catches back in place.
If you do this every month or two your turbine head will spin at max speed all the time and last longer too!.
Hope this helped you and feel free to leave a comment, I love feedback .

My steam pocket mop seems clogged. Steam does not come out of the mop head. The clog appears to be in the rectangular mop head. The triangular head still works fine. I've tried soaking it in hot water and soaking it with cleaning solutions. They have not worked. If I blow into the connection piece, no air goes through. Our unit is 7024A Electrolux Oxygen 3 - it seems to work great but suddenly, the head or 'power brush' or whatever it is called - has died. I checked by removing the hose and plugging it directly into the body, but it is still dead. Without that motorized head working, the vacuum is useless. Is it worth replacing? My Dyson DC25 animal is having issues. I believe everything is working correctly except I have realized that the mechanism which switches the hose/valve between the wand and the vacuum head isn't working properly. The two gear pieces that move the hose placement aren't close enough together, so they don't work together. It looks like there is a washer that I could potentially remove on the clear gear piece which would allow it to sit closer to the assembly. Would that work? Currently I am

With cleaning carpets with the Stowaway when the head gets a blockage it makes a high pitched whining sound and requires unblocking - then works fine. Now when vacuuming the head always makes the same sound when the head is against the carpet. you can also see that the rollers are slow or stopped. We have pulled the Stowaway virtually completely apart and checked for blockages as well as washed the filter and no difference. Any ideas?
