Having problems with your Dyson DC14 All floors Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum ?

Hello. I took the sole plate of to clean the brushes on my dyson dc14 however the brush part came out and i put it back in but since then whenever i switch it over to carpet setting it makes this really horrible clicking grinding sound its only new have only used it a couple of times.

You really need to take the sole plate back off and make sure the belt is running exactly where it's supposed to go and not looped over a piece of plastic or anything. More important is that you make sure the ends of the brush are seated properly and the bearings the brush is mounted to are clean and rotate freely. Look at each component and make sure they are assembled perfectly. Make sure a plastic ring or piece that goes on the end of the brush didn't get dropped under a piece of furniture and you forgot about it. If the problem keeps happening, take the brush and belt back out and carefully turn the machine on to see if it makes the sound. If it doesn't make the sound with the brush out, the problem is with the brush assembly. If it does make the sound, the clutch that turn the brush on and off is damaged and needs to be replaced. You can order a new clutch assembly and replace it without much trouble. They want you to think you can switch between floor and carpet settings all the time but it's really really stressful on that clutch to switch between settings with the motor running. Think about how powerful that motor is. Think about the poor unassuming brush assembly being jerked to life by that powerful motor running at full speed. I've seen that destroy a clutch in about two years. Anyway, it's much better for the life of your dyson to turn the motor off when you switch to carpet mode (when you turn the brushes on). You probably don't have to bother turning off the motor when turning the brushes off, or switching to bare floor mode, because it's not that stressful on the mechanism to just disengage the running motor.

My Dyson DC 14 is making the horrible "ratcheting"sound only when the brush is engaged on the carpet setting. I have cleaned the brush, so there are no obstructions, the canister is empty and properly on the unit. I checked to make sure all of the "traps" and hoses are clear of obstructions, the belt is on the brush securely and moves freely, the brush itself spins freely, but there is still the "ratcheting" noise. Any other suggestions?

Our DC33 was making the same ratcheting sound immediately upon placing the cleaner/brush head on the carpet. We carefully pulled the beater/brush bar out of the vacuum. With cleaning carpets with the Stowaway when the head gets a blockage it makes a high pitched whining sound and requires unblocking - then works fine. Now when vacuuming the head always makes the same sound when the head is against the carpet. you can also see that the rollers are slow or stopped. We have pulled the Stowaway virtually completely apart and checked for blockages as well as washed the filter and no difference. Any ideas?

On our new carpet (which is not that thick but thicker than the old) I can't set the carpet thickness high enough. The suction really grabs the carpet and bogs down my self-propelled wind-tunnel Hoover. I then have to push down on the handle to tilt the front up. The thickness setting is as high as it will go. Is there some way that I can further adjust this. The machine is about eight years old.

My Kirby Heritage II vacuum is not picking up dirt up out of the carpet like usual, and I have to keep setting it lower to pick anything up. I finally get it to such a low setting that it starts sucking the carpet up and makes a whirring noise, and starts smelling. Every time this happens, we find the belt has been burned. We are wondering if the brush roll inside with the brushes that pick up dirt are worn out and too short?

Does the epic 3500 have a belt? It seems that when running on the carpet setting, it is very noisy and is not picking up the way it should. When we run it on the floor setting, it sounds better, but the rolloer doesn't go around to fluff the carpet. What is wrong?

Yes, it does. It definitely sounds like a broken belt. And the noise would probably be due to the belt still being in the machine and hitting the motor shaft.\015\012Due to some difficulty in reassembling the powerhead and getting the belt to ... Electrolux Epic 3500 Vacuum

Loud noise I have a brand new Dyson and it is great on all my floors except one of my area rugs when it starts making this really loud vibrating noise. I am not sure why - nothing is stuck in the roller or vacuum and it doesn't make it on any of my other rugs. Also it is really hard to push whereas all the other floors it just glides. I don't want to return it but I also don't want to hear this sound every time I vacuum.
