Having problems with your Dyson DC14 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum ?

It sounds fine in the upright position but when I drop the handle to vacuum there's a terrible whining sound from the front. Something's up with the roller. Can the belt go bad?

Answers :

If its a loud clicking sound then it may be your clutch is bad. I called Dyson about mine and thats what they diagnosed it as. They wanted $125 to fix it. I went on ebay and bought a clutch and tool to help do the job and replaced it myself for less than $50. I watched a video on youtube about how to replace a clutch in my Dyson. It was done step by step and made the job so easy. It works perfect now.
Usually the beater brush gets clogged with hair. with unit unplugged, check for and remove any contamination. if it is clean, check and remove beater brush, replace if shaft and/or bearings worn

Make a very loud noise when I try to vaccuum the carpet. It sounds like it's something in the brush up front. Belts look good and obstructions are gone. Not sure what else to do.

I just used my Bissell Proheat, when I heard the vacuum sound get lower and lower then suddenly something "gave" and it got very loud and started emitting a burnt rubber smell. It still worked to put liquid into the carpet; seemed to have trouble getting it out. I checked the tank, filters, belt, and roller and all seemed OK - but when I started up again and looked down I saw sparks in the motor/belt area and shut it down immediately. Any thoughts?

The bearing that is located at the top of the vacuum motor has failed . Because of that the shaft of the motor's rotor is out of position and the pulley attached to it has started rubbing on the other pulleys, giving you that smell. the spark appear ... I replaced the belt on my Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagless Vacuum and the brush roller rubs and makes a very loud noise when turned on. I have gone exactly by the manual instructions and made sure the belt and end caps were on correctly, but the bristles still rub the back and it makes a very loud noise. Without the brush roller in the vacuum, it sounds and runs normal. What could the problem be?

I have a Filter Queen Majestic 360 and am having problems with the powerhead. There is a loud rattling noise in the powerhead, especially when I vacuum thicker carpet. I have replaced the motor, roller brush, and belt, but the rattling remains. It sounds like it is coming from the roller brush area, and when I turn the powerhead over, it rolls free and sounds fine. Any thoughts?

My Dyson Animal has good suction and works fine for actually picking up dirt, but when I use the vacuum with the roller, I hear a grinding/rumbling noise. Its only when I use the vacuum with the brush rotating. It does not happen hen I shut the roller brush off. The belt is fine. I cannot figure out what is wrong as there are no clogs, debris, or foreign objects stuck in the brush or in the belt. The noise seems to be the only issue. The vacuum picks up fine. It just doesn't sound right a

Hoover Mach 6 U5198-900 vacuum roller brush won't turn. I had opened the bottom to clean hair off the roller. the belts are not broken. When I closed it and turned it on, now the roller brush won't turn. I can push and turn it by hand, but not easily. I have a dirt devil featherlite plus and all of the sudden it started pushing hard and smells hot. I cleaned the roller, changed the bag, checked the belt. The belt is a little wore, but not bad.

My Dirt Devil Vibe bagless vacuum started giving off a burning smell. The brush roller was jammed with hair. I immediately shut it off and cut the hair out of the rollers with scissors until it turned freely. When I turned it back on, the smell was gone but there's no suction now. Roller Brush How do I install the roller brush. I didn't pay attention when I removed it and now when I attempt to vacuum my low carpet it doesn't seem to be working. The green light on the head of the vacuum goes out when I click it down to the floor. It didn't used to do that. Plus I think I smell something burning. Could the belt be broken?

Try a new belt. The ends of the brushroller are different sizes, so you can't put it in backwards. There are numbers and notches on the ends of the brushroll. These notches/numbers need to match on both sides when installing it. (probably need b ... Kirby Ultimate G Bagged Upright Vacuum

When I engage the beater roller it will work for a short time (15-20 seconds) and then squeel loudly as if something is not engaging properly. I checked the roller ends and cleaned them but it seems to roll freely by hand while connected to the belt and then at a time it becomes very hard to turn by hand.

Sounds to me that the motor is shot. There is a main bearing the belt shaft connects to and it sounds like the bearing is seazing and gets worse when it nheats up. I have a dyson model seven all floor. It is making a terrible grinding noise when the carpet knob is engaged. Could something have gotten sucked up into the belt compartment, off the brush belt? Any ideas?

Beater brushes not turning on the wife's Hoover Steam Vac model F5905-900. Found one prior ''solution'' stating that it sounded like the belt was bad. That was my original thought, but on checking schematics and trying to find part numbers at Sears Parts Direct and at Hoover, it does not appear the F5905-900 steam vac HAS any belts to begin with. What's next??

This one I can tell you about from personal experience with that generation Hoover Steam Vac. After using it about 7 or 8 times my brushes stopped turning also.I disassembled it (kind of like disassembling a Chinese puzzle box) and found ... Hoover F5905-900 Vacuum

Hoover U6637-960 the self propel is not not working. When lowering the handle it acts like it would like to work but the roller will not turn. appears to be something to do with the self propel part of the handle . took the screws aout but can not get it apart. Is there another belt of something in there?

This vac has 2 belts. If both self propel and roller not spinning then most likely it is the wide flat belt broken or off. 4 screws on the bottom should gain you access to the belt area. another issue for this model series is a worn pulley on the rol ... Hi, There is a high pitched whirring sound coming from lower part of the vacuum. When I tilt it toward me (while standing in the normal vacuuming stance) the sound sometimes lessens for a minute or so. I have tried the following things: -cleaned the two sponge filters -emptied the dirt receptacle -removed the roller and cleaned it -cleaned the brushes -the belt is not ragged and does not seem floppy -checked all of the airways for clogs (including removing the wheel base) Can you help?

My eureka 5902 4D bagless uprights roller brush stopped spinning. The belt is ok. This model has a sliding switch for roller speed. The brush should spin when you release the handle via the foot release. Bad brush motor or is there a fuse involved?

My Kirby 2HD has started making an odd roaring noise but still works fine. I have taken the front assembly off and cleaned and adjusted the roller and checked the belt. The noise seems to come from the motor housing. I have tried to wiggle the main shaft at the front (bearings?) and it seems tight. Can't seem to get the other housings apart. Any ideas? Thanks, John

It is quite possible, it just needs lubed. The motor comes in direct contact with dirt so, you have to make sure the front bearing has a drop of oil on it from time to time. If it starts to scream at you within one month, after oiling, the bearing ... Kirby Heritage II Vacuum
