Hello,
\015\012
\015\012This is a difficult repair to try and guess what may be the problem, but I will try and go over a few things that may be wrong with your vacuum.
\015\012
\015\0121. Filters. You should check the filter that is in the top part of the dust bin first. This is the circular blue filter that should be washed every 3 months. Once yo have the dust bin out of the vacuum cleaner, you can see the latch that opens the filter housing in the front of the machine where the handle comes down. Simply open up this latch, and check the filter underneath. Is it visibly dirty? If you've recently washed this filter, and it appears clean, then you don't really need to wash it again, this is probably not the problem. If you haven't washed it lately, or if it appears dirty, just rinse it off with hot water, and make 100% absolute certain the filter is dry before re-installing it into the vacuum.
\015\012
\015\0122. Brushes on roller brush. If the filter is ok, check the brush roller, and specifically the length of the bristles on this roller brush. Even though brand new, the Dyson roller brush doesn't have very thick bristles, you should be able to see a small part of the brush protruding through the bottom sole plate. How long are the brushes? I've posted a picture below of what a new one looks like so you may compare them. If the brushes are low, then this maybe a reason why the machine is not picking up well on floors. The average life of a Dyson roller appears to be about 3-4 years only. If you have to replace it, there's an even better roller brush that's a generic part that has longer, and thicker brushes, for much less then the genuine Dyson part. Here's the picture;

\015\0123. Bottom Sole Plate. Sometimes we see from customers Dyson models when they bring them into Govacuum for repair that at some point the bottom sole plate had been removed to clean the brush roller. Some of the times when the customer re-installs the plate, the plate is not installed properly, and it's a good .5-1" higher off the carpeting then it should be. If you've recently cleaned your roller brush, check on the both sides of your vacuum. Particularly where the bottom, grey colored part meets the purple colored part that the roller brush is housed, also known as an brush roll housing. The grey colored part should be flush completely with the purple part on the sides of the vacuum. Do you see any cracks on either side in this particular area? If yes, then remove the bottom soleplate, and reinstall it properly to ensure that the plate meets the agitator housing flush, with no space. I can't tell you how common this problem is, we see it very frequently.
\015\012
\015\0124. Internal Hose. While you have the machine upside down to inspect the soleplate, check the internal hose that connects the purple agitator housing with the motor area of the vacuum. Sometimes the flexible hose will stretch, and finally crack, usually right at the end of the hose before the rubber hose cuff that connects into the agitator housing. Can you see any visible damage here? This is a picture of what this hose looks like;

I have a Kenmore vacuum cleaner model #116.34720. The problem I am having is that if you are rolling the vacuum around, the base will drop without pressing on the handle release pedal. This often results in a bunch of dirt being dumped back out. The manual doesn't show anything about adjusting the handle release pedal so it holds the handle and base in an upright position better. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
