Having problems with your Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum ?
It sounds as though a belt is rubbing or slightly off-track. The sound is extremely loud. We've removed the plate around the brush bar, made sure the brushes are free of dog hair, and found that the belt appears to be on track. What should we try now? We haven't tried to use it to check for suction for fear of doing real damage!
Is the sound coming from the head unit where the belt is attached? When you power up the vac, can you watch the belt to see if it is frayed or running off track. I have the same Dyson and had this same issue, cleaning the head cured it, but your issue may be different.

Beater brushes not turning on the wife's Hoover Steam Vac model F5905-900. Found one prior ''solution'' stating that it sounded like the belt was bad. That was my original thought, but on checking schematics and trying to find part numbers at Sears Parts Direct and at Hoover, it does not appear the F5905-900 steam vac HAS any belts to begin with. What's next??
This one I can tell you about from personal experience with that generation Hoover Steam Vac. After using it about 7 or 8 times my brushes stopped turning also.I disassembled it (kind of like disassembling a Chinese puzzle box) and found ... Hoover F5905-900 Vacuum
My Hoover Windtunnel Mach 6.9 brush roller quit working. Upon investigating I found that the idler arm pulley was broken so I managed to replace that. Before putting the cover back on I see the control knob for the roller brush moves a plastic piece left or right to activate/deactivate the brush roller. I don't know where this plastic piece connects. It appears to me that the idler are when raised creates tension on the belt which drives the roller. I'm at a loss trying to figure ou

The belt on my used Eureka Boss 5857 upright slips off the end of the motor shaft every time the vacuum is used. When I turn the brush roll slowly by hand, the belt walks toward the end of the shaft. It looks like there was a plastic projection from the base that snapped off, and maybe that plastic piece used to block the belt from falling off. Do I need to try to reconstruct that plastic piece, or is something else wrong?

Have a Centralux Aerus about 5 years old. Don't see a model number. There is suction but beater brush quit working. Was using for a few minutes, shut it off for a few minutes, turned it back on and suction only. Tried the reset button also. Tried the sidekick attachment and it works fine. There was no smell like something was hot. Belt is fine. Are there any fuses or anything else to try? This vacuum cleaner has not really been used that much, it is hard to believe the motor would need replaced

Windtunnel belt I have a new Hoover Windtunnel canister. The belt keeps coming off. It happened a couple weeks ago (several times after putting the belt back on) so I assumed I might need a new belt as it might have dried out at the store. I ordered new belts and today I used it for about an hour and the belt came off again, twice. There doesn't seem to be anything to hold the belt on the stem as it seems to slip off. I have tried it centered, to the left and to the right....can you help. I am v

Small belt driving the brush...stretched out with hair accumulated in groove beneath belt. Is there a clutch or other means of tightening the belt. Went to store found belt...same size, therefore previously assumed stretched condition does not appear to be valid. I'm missing something. Any help?
You do not by a belt by size, buy it by model only. A new Hoover belt will generally be very snug when installed. As heat builds from use it stretches and becomes worn sometimes as much as 30% oversize. Good that you have cleaned out the hair. Check ... Floor Attachment I took off my floor attachment, but now the belt seems to be off and I can't seem to get it back on right. I can't use the attachment and I don't know why it's so hard to figure this out. They say, just turn it to belt off, but when i turn it it lift's it up and can't line up with the belt off label. Then, when I turn it the other way, it's off. So I've been trying to pull it off so when it lines up with belt off, it's off. But the I turn it the other way and it's still off a

We own a dirt devil model 088600, and are experiencing a problem with the belt wearing away a section between where the belt connects to the brushes and the motor. There is a lot of plastic/rubber residue coming out from the vacuum. We have tried new belts only to find the same problem occurs. I noticed that the source of the dust is coming from the section between the brushes and motor, where there appears to be a section that is misshapen and melted. I looked up the schematic online and can't

On our Hoover U6445-900 (Mach 6.9) we replaced the small belt that goes to beater brushes in front of unit. Upon starting, the Hoover quickly got hot and smoky. We shut it off and looked things over carefully, but the second try also resulted in friction heat on the belt. Now it appears the belt may have stretched due to heat and the brushes won't spin. Any ideas?

It is not clear how to access the front spool on a Eureka 'Boss - smartvac' 4870K vacuum cleaner, when replacing the belt. Trying to force the flimsy black plastic lever attached to the shiny silver spool where the front end of the belt appears as if it should go, would cause breakage.
