Wait, there are two more screws that must be removed before the top shell will come off. They are located under the wheels. Pop the wheels out by simply inserting yoru finger or a small tool into the wheel and pulling straight up. Remove those two screws and then you can proceed as mentioned above.
When reassembling the head, if the shell does not snap back onto the base, check for plastic chips or other debris in the narrow slots on the underside of the shell. Clear these slots out and the head should easily snap back together.
Take the bottom screws out of the body. Then the housing should come apart in half. Lift the top half off from the bottom. Then you can take out the turbine and the roller to clean out the hair and dirt that get built up in there. Spay a little WD-40 on the roller brush ends and the turbine ends. Now put the roller and the turbine back in and replace the top housing. Put the screws back into the bottom and run the turbo brush on the vacuum for a few minutes to work the oil back into it. That should get things rolling well again.

I took the cover off the brush so I could cut off all the hair that was wrapped around it (vacuum was working fine, I just noticed the hair). I pulled the brush/spinner thing off one side, cleaned everything, popped it back in where it belonged, and tried to make sure the belt was in the proper alignment. However, when I turned the vacuum on, it makes a horrible noise like I'm sucking up rocks. What have I done wrong in putting it back together? It seemed simple...

I was vacuuming my room and all of a sudden I hear this loud noise, then notice the roller brush isn't spinning. Thinking too much hair was caught I separated it from the rod and hose to clean it out, but noticed that the roller brush didn't move at all while I was cleaning it. I've cleaned the brush before and it would roll around with little effort, but this time I couldn't move it at all. My Bissell Model 3760-4 is not working properly. The belt has been replaced (and checked 3 times), but the brush bar does not move when the brush motor button is on. The little metal turning piece that turns the belt is turnable with one's finger when the belt is off, but when we put it all back together and turn on the vacuum, the brush bar does not go around and the burning belt smell returns. I have a Kenmore 116.36932 (upright-bagless vacuum) that the motor protector by-pass valve has opened. I've clean out the area between the agitator brush where the flexible extension hose starts.
