Having problems with your Electrolux Vacuums ?

I have a Harmony vacuum that's a couple years old. I recently sucked a fair amount of dog hair into it and was unaware something was amiss since the things so quiet. It just shut down and wouldn't come back on. 10 minutes or so later it came back on but now it's got no sucking power. I figure I torched the motor. Good guess? What are my options--I'm out in the middle of no where but can get it to a repair shop 250 miles away. Is it worth trying to salvage or am I going to pay as much to get it f

I cleaned the whole thing out, changed out all the filters again and cleaned out the motor compartment. Then I discovered a huge clog in the line. Once I got that all done--it's now working like a charm. Moral of the story: spend more time looking for the little things before jumping the gun and assuming it's a major problem. Thanks for walking me through the process!
Hi There,
\015\012Nope, I don't think you torched the motor. I believe this model has a thermal cut-out on the motor that prevents this. I am pretty sure that the vacuum is blocked somewhere, you see, the air that is sucked in is the same air that cools the motor. When the vacuum is blocked, the cooling stops, motor overheats and the thermal trip jumps in. Ten mins later, the trip kicks out (as the motor cools) and away you go, but until the blockage is cleared it will keep doing this. The blockage could be anywhere right up to the turbine on the motor itself so, unplug it, get the screwdriver out and get going. Start with all external hoses\\channels before tackling internals using a long piece of dowel or similar poking thingy.
\015\012One final note, you may well find that the pet hair managed to block the system by getting stuck on some other object that was already there (usually something silly like a toothpick) pet hair doesn't usually block vacuums on its own. Make sure you clear everything out or the problem will re-occur.
\015\012Hope this helps.

Miele Cat & Dog vacuum gets VERY hot and is VERY loud. Hose has no restrictions and I have changed the dust compartment (motor) filter and the exhaust filter. It still gets hot when I run it with the top open and all filters removed, so I'm guessing the problem is with the motor. Should I be going into the motor compartment? If so, what am I looking for?

Hi\015\012\015\012The fact that it gets very hot could be due to a number of issues.,but the fact that it started making a very loud noise at the same time suggests that there might be more problems maybe brushes etc.\015\012\ ... Miele S514 Solaris Bagged Canister Vacuum

I am getting very little suction from the motor. The hose is clear, the bag new. When I open the bag cover, plug the hose in and turn the vacuum on, there is next to no suction from the motor. What do you think is wrong? How do I remove the cord retractor to get to the two screws that hold the back of the canopy cover?

Your problem is probably is you don't have a proper seal in your chasis. A vacuum has to be sealed tight or the air will leak out and the seal broken. Check around the whole body after the bag is in and check for any airflow noise. I could help more ... Vacuums
