Horrible sounds on carpet setting!
\015 My vacuum is working on the bare floor setting (but not that well), and has great suction with the hose. But! When I try to turn it on carpet setting, it starts making really terrible terrible sounds like something is hitting against something else inside the vacuum cleaner. I turned it on and looked in while it was running and the carpet roller wasn't spinning, it wasn't sucking, AND it was making the terrible sound. BUT I couldn't see what was hitting what. Suggestions?\015
Sounds like what ours is doing. we took off the roller, and if you look on one side, it's melted. we're looking at either replacing the roller and seeing if that helps...and hoping it doesn't happen again...or we may just go out and replace the vacuum entirely. haven't decided.
There some screws from the bottom to remove then the top cover will come off, then you can check it over to see what the problem is.

My Dyson has suddenly starting making this LOUD, horrible sound when I am using it on the carpet setting. However, when I use it on the floor setting, I do not get this noise. Also, I think the 'sucking' power is not as strong.

Hello. I took the sole plate of to clean the brushes on my dyson dc14 however the brush part came out and i put it back in but since then whenever i switch it over to carpet setting it makes this really horrible clicking grinding sound its only new have only used it a couple of times.
You really need to take the sole plate back off and make sure the belt is running exactly where it's supposed to go and not looped over a piece of plastic or anything. More important is that you make sure the ends of the brush are seated properly an ... Dyson DC14 All floors Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
My Dyson DC 14 is making the horrible "ratcheting"sound only when the brush is engaged on the carpet setting. I have cleaned the brush, so there are no obstructions, the canister is empty and properly on the unit. I checked to make sure all of the "traps" and hoses are clear of obstructions, the belt is on the brush securely and moves freely, the brush itself spins freely, but there is still the "ratcheting" noise. Any other suggestions?
Our DC33 was making the same ratcheting sound immediately upon placing the cleaner/brush head on the carpet. We carefully pulled the beater/brush bar out of the vacuum. Once removed, we pulled the black plastic end off of the center rod. We discovere ... Dyson DC14 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
Does the epic 3500 have a belt? It seems that when running on the carpet setting, it is very noisy and is not picking up the way it should. When we run it on the floor setting, it sounds better, but the rolloer doesn't go around to fluff the carpet. What is wrong?
Yes, it does. It definitely sounds like a broken belt. And the noise would probably be due to the belt still being in the machine and hitting the motor shaft.\015\012Due to some difficulty in reassembling the powerhead and getting the belt to ... Electrolux Epic 3500 Vacuum
My brand new dyson dc33 vacuum ($399.00) is making an annoying sound when applied using a carpet setting. This only occurs on my thinner carpets, not on my thicker carpets. Do I have to inspect the clutch and fan mechanism and replace it? It's a brand new vaccum for god's sakes!

Brush Roll belt stops turning durring vacuuming on WindTunnel self-propelled, v belt is a little loose with handle down. Tensioning roll is engaged OK, but fully at the end of its travel. Also turns easily until it engages the carpet. Self propel function works just fine.

On our new carpet (which is not that thick but thicker than the old) I can't set the carpet thickness high enough. The suction really grabs the carpet and bogs down my self-propelled wind-tunnel Hoover. I then have to push down on the handle to tilt the front up. The thickness setting is as high as it will go. Is there some way that I can further adjust this. The machine is about eight years old.

How is the V-belt tension adjusted (Hoover Model U6439-900)or how do I know if the tension is correct? There seems to be a lot of "play" in the belt and I'm wondering if that is the reason the brush roll only turns as the wheels turn, regardless of the carpet height setting. And yes, the brush roll is set for carpet, not hard floor. Or is the cause of the problem something other than the V-belt? A new flat belt was installed when the machine was professionally serviced so I assume (?) that was a
The V-Belt is not adjustable. There are two ways the belt has no tension: (1) when the handle is upright, a mechanical lever takes the drive tension off the belt, and (2) the brush roll lever setting you described. With cleaning carpets with the Stowaway when the head gets a blockage it makes a high pitched whining sound and requires unblocking - then works fine. Now when vacuuming the head always makes the same sound when the head is against the carpet. you can also see that the rollers are slow or stopped. We have pulled the Stowaway virtually completely apart and checked for blockages as well as washed the filter and no difference. Any ideas?

Hoover Windtunnel U5750-900 Agitator brush is weak. It turns fine if I tilt the vacuum back, but it slows to almost 1/4 speed when it touches carpet, even on the highest carpet setting. I've replaced the agitator belt twice. The brush used to turn powerfully even on the lowest (Hard Floor) setting. Ideas? I should probably lube the agitator brush ball bearings, and re-check the belt, but, other than that, I'm stumped.

My Kirby Heritage II vacuum is not picking up dirt up out of the carpet like usual, and I have to keep setting it lower to pick anything up. I finally get it to such a low setting that it starts sucking the carpet up and makes a whirring noise, and starts smelling. Every time this happens, we find the belt has been burned. We are wondering if the brush roll inside with the brushes that pick up dirt are worn out and too short?
