Having problems with your Eureka Smartvac 4870 Bagged Upright Vacuum ?

My Eureka The boss Smartvac Model #4870 roller brush won't turn even on the highest setting and the belt smells hot. we took the belt off. How can you tell if it needs replaced?

Just by what you explained I can tell that it needs to be replaced. The belt doesn't have to be broken to need replacing, if it is stretched and worn then it will slip on the motor shaft and not turn the brush roll and get hot. The motor spins the belt, and the belt spins the roller. It can either be the roller or the belt on your vacuum. When you take out your roller and spin it between your hands, does it turn or is it seized up?

Have a Centralux Aerus about 5 years old. Don't see a model number. There is suction but beater brush quit working. Was using for a few minutes, shut it off for a few minutes, turned it back on and suction only. Tried the reset button also. Tried the sidekick attachment and it works fine. I think your talking about the motor spindel,,(the little metal bit?) if the motor is that hot its going to burn out soon, check that the brush is free to turn if its tight free it off its full of grit or fluff also check that the motor turns freely ... When I was using my Bissell ProHeat 7901, I smelled something hot (almost burnt) and turned off the vaccum. When I turned it back on, everything seemed to be working, but the vaccum part was not making the same sound.
