How do I replace the spinning brushes? - Hoover F5906-900 Upright Steam Vacuum

Answers :

When the brushes stop spinning on a Hoover SteamVac, it \015\012can be caused by several things. In order to diagnosis why your brushes \015\012aren't spinning, please view the diagnosis solution I have done\015\012 on Fixya:

If\015\012 you have diagnosed your machine, and found that the internal \015\012receptacle is not spinning, then you'll now need to replace your \015\012turbine. This tip will explain in detail how you'll need to complete \015\012this repair.

Here's what you'll need to complete this \015\012repair:
- Hoover SteamVac Replacement Turbine \015\012Brush Gear
- Phillips Head Screwdriver
- Flat Head \015\012Screwdriver

Step 1. Remove both the clean solution, and the dirty\015\012 solution tanks from the machine, and press the handle release pedal so \015\012that the handle is laying down flat:

Step\015\012 2. With a flat head screwdriver, pry off the rotating brush speed \015\012indicator knob:
407b985.jpg\015\012
\015\012Step 3. Unscrew the silver screw that's at the very top of the see-thru \015\012suction port where the dirty solution tank rests.
\015\012

Step 4. Turn the SteamVac upside down so \015\012that the brushes are facing upwards. There are four clips that hold \015\012these brushes in place. You'll need to remove the brushes from the \015\012machine by squeezing the four tabs while pulling upwards at the same \015\012time. The picture actually \015\012only shows the two tabs on the right hand side being squeezed, but the \015\012tabs on the left hand side are in the exact same location:
\015\012
23e0faa.jpg
Step 5. Once you've removed the brush block from the \015\012machine, there are 4 screws on the bottom that need to be removed. Keep \015\012the two silver screws on the very corner in place, you won't need to \015\012remove these. Remove the four screws that I've highlighted in red:
\015\012
91d0198.jpg
Step 6. Turn the machine back over right side up, so \015\012that the brushes are on the bottom. There are two clips that hold the \015\012top housing in place. Insert your flat head screwdriver in between the \015\012top and lower housing in the rear of the machine close to the rear \015\012wheels, and pry upwards to un-clip these clips on both the \015\012left and right sides, then remove the top motor housing from the \015\012machine.
\015\012
10d963e.jpg\015\012
Step 7. You'll now have complete access to the turbine. Remove the \015\012two silver screws in the front of the unit that hold the turbine in \015\012place, as well as remove the front hose from the turbine:
\015\012
cabbd35.jpg\015\012
Step 8. Once you have removed the two screws you'll be able to lift \015\012the turbine up. There's a second hose in the rear of the turbine that \015\012you'll also need to remove before you can remove the turbine completely.\015\012 After you've removed the hose, take the turbine out of the machine. \015\012You'll notice to the immediate left of the turbine other hoses that \015\012connect to a black circular part. This is actually the pump that sprays \015\012the water on the floor. If you ever have the problem where the clean \015\012water solution will not spray, it's a good possibility that this part \015\012needs to be replaced.
04dc1da.jpg\015\012
\015\012Simply install the new turbine, reattached the hoses and two front \015\012screws. When you're putting the top motor housing back on the unit, make\015\012 sure that the brush speed selector knob that's on the right side of the\015\012 turbine fits through the **** in the top motor housing. Also before you\015\012 tighten the two screws that that hold the top housing in \015\012in front of the brushes, there's two clips. You'll need to snap the top \015\012motor housing behind these two clips. Simply push front of the motor \015\012housing until you hear it snap into place.
