Having problems with your Hoover SteamVac Carpet/Upholstery Deep Cleaner Vacuum ?

When you start to scrub the water comes out but the brushes wont turn and there is very little suction

Greetings from GoVacuum.com,

It sounds as if your brushes are either clogged with debris, or your turbine that drives the brushes have gone bad. The first thing you should check is whether the brush speed selector knob is turned to the on position.

Here's a guide to show you how you diagnose the problem, and hopefully this will fix it. We just created a video on how to replace the turbine on our YouTube account.

You may also purchase any of the supplies that you need directly available on our website http://www.govacuum.com

Here's the diagnosis to your Hoover SteamVac:
Greetings from GoVacuum,

The Hoover SteamVac's are notorious for this exact problem. There are several things that can be causing this probelm.

First,\015\012what you'll need to do is take the brush block out of the machine. To\015\012do this there are 4 clips on the brush block. You will need to turn the\015\012machine upside down, and pull down on the brush block to where it won't\015\012pull out any farther. There are 4 clips, 2 on top, and 2 on the rear of\015\012the brushes. (See picture, I have circled one of the clips in red).\015\012Simply press these clips at the same time, and pull the brush block out\015\012of the machine. I'd say that 60% of the time that I see this problem,\015\012the main issue is that the brushes just need to be cleaned. If you have\015\012pets in the home, a lot of the time the pet hair will just be lodged\015\012inside the brushes, will prevent them from spinning. Use a pressurized\015\012water hose (garden hose2_bing.gif\015\012with spray nozzle is ideal) and spray each brush with water to dislodge\015\012any pet hair. You should be able to get these brushes spinning when you\015\012spray them. Spray each brush until the brushes are spinning pretty\015\012fast. Re-insert the brushes into the machine, and test to see if the\015\012cleaning has fixed your problem. If the cleaning still fails to fix the\015\012problem, take the brushes back out of the machine.

One you have\015\012the brushes out of the machine, the first thing you should look at the\015\012brush stem that goes into the turbine inside the machine. This is the\015\012green pole pictured in middle of the brush block. Examine this pole to\015\012determine if the top of it has broken off. It should exactly how the\015\012picture shows it. Make sure that the plastic has not broken.

If\015\012the pole has broken, you will simply need to replace the brush block.\015\012If the pole is not damaged, the next thing to try is to turn the\015\012machine on while you have the brushes out. Look inside the machine,\015\012where the pole goes into the turbine (also important, make sure the\015\012switch for the brushes is turned to "Rotating Brush Speed Hi), this\015\012female receptacle should spin when the machine is turned on. It is\015\012important the try this when the foot pedal is released, and the handle\015\012down, and not in the upright position, as there is an internal switch\015\012that shuts the brushes off when the machine is in the upright position.

If\015\012you notice that the female receptacle where the brush pole is inserted\015\012is spinning, then your turbine is fine. If this part is not spinning,\015\012then most likely you will need to replace your turbine.

I hope this helps you with your problem. If not, please feel free to email\015\012me at [email protected], and I'd be happy to walk you through\015\012the diagnosing. I also can provide you with a blown up parts schematic\015\012to your machine, please just get the model number off the back of the\015\012machine and provide, and provide me with the full model number. I do\015\012carry all parts for your machine, and would be happy to provide any technical support you need.

I\015\012tried uploading the pictures to this solution, however Fixya will not\015\012allow the pictures because they are too big. Please email me, and I'll\015\012send you the pictures.
