Hoover Windtunnel U5750-900 Agitator brush is weak. It turns fine if I tilt the vacuum back, but it slows to almost 1/4 speed when it touches carpet, even on the highest carpet setting. I've replaced the agitator belt twice. The brush used to turn powerfully even on the lowest (Hard Floor) setting. Ideas? I should probably lube the agitator brush ball bearings, and re-check the belt, but, other than that, I'm stumped.

Folks, My wife and I own a three-year-old Hoover U6434-900 self-propelled "Wind Tunnel" upright vacuum cleaner. The problem is that, even on the highest setting (front-end as high as possible), it gets bogged-down in even shallow pile carpet to the point that the brush stops. I've cleaned the machine thoroughly, pulling hair, thread, dental floss and such from the brush (and everywhere else), including unscrewing the brush end caps and pulling out the cat hair mats which formed in there.

Check to see if the V belt sits too deep in the brushroll groove, if it sits too deep you will need to replace the brushroll. the top of the belt should be about flush with the brushroll. also you have to take the screws out of the self propelled uni ... Vacuums

Brush Roll belt stops turning durring vacuuming on WindTunnel self-propelled, v belt is a little loose with handle down. Tensioning roll is engaged OK, but fully at the end of its travel. My Dyson DC 14 is making the horrible "ratcheting"sound only when the brush is engaged on the carpet setting. I have cleaned the brush, so there are no obstructions, the canister is empty and properly on the unit. I checked to make sure all of the "traps" and hoses are clear of obstructions, the belt is on the brush securely and moves freely, the brush itself spins freely, but there is still the "ratcheting" noise. Any other suggestions?
