The handle for my Eureka 5993 AVZ was getting very hot when used. Finally, the wires around the switch melted and now the vacuum will not work. What is wrong? Is the switch bad? The wires only melted in the immediate vicinity of the three-prong switch. Nothing else appears to be wrong; the vacuum worked fine when it was running - except for the handle getting hot. Hoover Upright Vacuum model U5470-900 - The On/Off switch on the handle does not properly engage the power switch deeper in the handle assembly. It appears to ride over the lower switch and doesn't engage it to operate it. If I play with it, I can get it to maybe turn on the vacuum, but, then the upper handle switch won't turn it off. Our current workaround is to use the power cord for on/off operation.

My 8 yr old kenmore vacuum works well - however the hose has worn under the handle where there is a hole (resulting in decreased suction power). I'd like instructions on opening the handle and bypassing the worn piece of tubing rather than replacing it for $129. Some of the handle screws remove easily but the last one doesn't loosen easily.

Hi,Have you tried spraying the stubborn screw with WD40 and let it soaked for a while? Other than these screws holding the handle together, there would no other way of opening it up. Hope this be of initial help/idea. ... Kenmore Vacuums

Bisell Healthy home vacuum stopped working. The troubleshooting guide said there could be a problem in the connection at the handle. None of the phillips screwdrivers we have seem to work in removing the screw that holds the handle to the vacuum. What size phillips screw driver should we be using? If the screw is stripped, how can we get it out to replace it since it is not easily accessible in the handle?

You should use a p2 size phillips. there is only one screw right in the center that holds the handle assy on. frequently that screw backs out and allows the handle to slide back and loose connection. make sure the handle is tightly pressed in and the ... Vacuums

Cord replacement I need to replace a damaged cord (the reel works). How do I get the top off so I can remove the back end? Once I get it off, will I be able to change the cord, or do I need to buy the whole reel assembly? (and thanks for the help - I love this site!)

You will probably have to replace the whole reel cord. Depending on your model, on each side, there is a bar in the middle that will slide off, then the 2 halfs will come apart. They will only slide in one direction. If an older model, there are s ... Electrolux Lux 5500 Canister Vacuum

Hoover U5344-950 My Hoover vacuum is a nightmare! I have had nothing but problems with it since day 1. The powerhead stops working if you try to lower the handle to vacuum. I took it in to be serviced and was told it sat on the shelf for too long in the store and it warped the belt...so it was replaced. Got it home, it worked the first time I tried it, then went right back to no powerhead working and as a bonus it is giving off a nasty smell like it is going to blow up! It now gets really hot to

I was changing a light bulb with one of those metal extension rods that unscrew and screw back in the replacement bulbs. It evidently didn't seat correctly and pulled off the bulb and created a quick "poof" type electrical short. I have switched out that bad bulb with a new one and can't get either the fan or lights to work. There doesn't appear to be a reset switch. I also swirched out the wall switch to see if that would make a difference and it does not. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreci

My electrolux ambassador power wand quit working. I replaced the switch that shuts it off when the roller stops, but it wasn't the problem. The on/off switch is fine, the motor is fine. I have a 6550 that just stopped working. I had the on/off switch tested to find out that it was dead. I replaced it and still the machine does not work. Could the wiring in the handle be bad? How do you test if the motor is still good?

I test a motor by taking an old vacuum cleaner cord with alligator clips on the ends and hook it up to the motor simply bypassing the entire vacuum cleaner. If it runs then I know the problem is not the motor. ... Simplicity Vacuums

The brush wouldn't work when the selector switch was in carpet mode. Took the power head apart and removed the motor. Everything o.k. in the power head. Checked and found that the neutural wire had pulled out of the connector, the connector was never crimped at the factory. What a day! Took 2 hours and a large pizza to get it done. Neutral wire was in the hose just below the handle. Reconnected the wire and crimped it, put everything back together. It works!!!!
