FIrst, remove the dust bin part and the brushes. Then, there are four\015\012screws on the bottom gray panel which have to be removed first in order\015\012to get to the gears which hold the brushes. I did not remove the little\015\012sweeper brush on the front, but I just slide it through the hole in the\015\012gray panel.
\015\012
\015\012Then in order to get out the orange section which actually holds the\015\012brushes, there are four screws which must be removed. The orange\015\012section is attached to a blue section. This entire unit comes out by\015\012sliding it toward the area where the dust bin goes, being careful not\015\012to tear the light gray rubber gasket which covers the side.
\015\012
\015\012Once that section is removed, there are two screws on each side. These\015\012screws hold the orange thing to the blue thing. Once the screws are\015\012removed, lift up only the side which has the white squares into which\015\012the brushes are inserted. These are actually the back side of little\015\012gears. There is a face plate on the outside of the orange part on this\015\012end. The other end contains a bunch of wires and I was careful not to\015\012disconnect any of them.
\015\012
\015\012The face plate has six screws which must all be removed. Use caution\015\012when removing the face plate. Hold it up so that all of the stuff\015\012doesn't fall out. It has a bunch of gears, little brass looking\015\012fittings and grease. Take care to only remove the gears which have the\015\012squares which hold the brushes AND do it one at a time\015\012unless you like working jigsaw puzzles. I used tweezers and a pin to\015\012clean the "gunk" consisting of hair, fuzz, etc., out of the little gears
Take out both brush rollers. pull off funny looking yellow ends clean out hair ect.

In my (almost new) Dyson DC31 Animal the rolling brush tends to stop like the bearing was kind of difficult to turn. I opened the side carter and removed the little belt. Without the belt the engine runs regularly. I cleaned the little knots of hairs trapped in the bearing but still the brush runs for a while then stops, tries for a bit then stops again. I even tryed putting a bit of synthetic lubricant with apparently no result. Could it be a defective bearing? Thanks for your help.

Folks, My wife and I own a three-year-old Hoover U6434-900 self-propelled "Wind Tunnel" upright vacuum cleaner. The problem is that, even on the highest setting (front-end as high as possible), it gets bogged-down in even shallow pile carpet to the point that the brush stops. I've cleaned the machine thoroughly, pulling hair, thread, dental floss and such from the brush (and everywhere else), including unscrewing the brush end caps and pulling out the cat hair mats which formed in there.
