I pulled the side HEPA filter and could see a fine coating of graphite like dust. Took it to a vacuum repair shop. They said the brushes were going and thus the motor was shot. That dust is from the carbon brushes on the motor. You may need to check them, and also clean out the motor compartment. A slight noise could be a motor bearing starting to go. Does the smell like rubber or electrical. If rubber, then the belt h ... Vacuums

We have the Kenmore progressive direct drive (bagless) and have had it for about 3 years. We have taken good care of it, and paid quite a bit for it hoping that it would last for a good long time. It has started making a noise that seems to be an overflow air type of noise coming out of a bottom air outlet opening for when the air flow is blocked. We have looked into clogs, changed filters, and the whole works, to no avail! Quite Frustrating since I love this purple vacuum! The machine started

Kenmore 21875 One day it's working fine. Next day, it won't turn on. When I attach the hose to another vacuum cleaner, it runs. Is there a reset button on the canister? Could it be the receptacle is bad? My Kenmore Progressive won't turn on today either -but was fine last week. I cleaned the filters checked for blocked air, tried a different outlet and no luck. I'll check the pins on the connections and see if one of them is not matching up or appears worn.

Kenmore Progressive canister model 116.27514700 Problem: Vacuum motor won't turn on. The power head operates, but nothing from the vacuum. Have checked all areas of airflow: hose, bag, motor filter and hepa filter. All are fine. Have checked and rechecked all electrical connections, all seem to be in working order. How to install the back hepa filter on canister vacuum cleaner. We are not sure which direction the air flows and therefore which way the arrows should point. Should the arrows point into the vacuum cleaner or point towards the outside?

The arrows in this case should point out of the machine. not into the machine. This is because you want the black rubber seal to seal on the machine and force the air through the filter. Good luck. Mark ... Kenmore 25512/ 25513 Progressive Canister Vacuum

I had the vacuum cleaner question about the canister and the wand/powerhead... the Kenmore Progressive Vacuum canister model 116.25812 and the canister not powering off without unplugging the vacuum. The solution I received that they both run on their own switch so it is normal makes sense. However, is there a power switch on the canister anywhere? The only way for the canister to be turned off is by unplugging it. Any ideas? One would think there would be a switch. I am new to fixya and hope

Unbeknownst to me, someone took the bag out of my Kenmore Progressive vacuum and failed to replace it. I have been vacuuming without a bag for months, and today the vacuum stopped sucking. When I opened up the front to replace the bag, tons of dirt and dust came pouring out. I thoroughly cleaned the vacuum, put in a new bag, but still no sucking power. Just dust coming from the rear vents where one of the filters is. Is the vacuum ruined, or is it a simple solution of buying a new filter?

Sounds like you need to buy a new motor. All that grit and dust will ruin a motor and I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.\015\012This is where a vacuum that won't run without a bag would have been nice. (Aerus for one) ... Kenmore 31913 Progressive Direct Drive Bagged Upright Vacuum
