Smells like burning

\015 I turn the vacuum on and withing seconds smell burning. That is without the handle, the actual brush that we use for vacuuming. That is not connected so it is not the roller, or the rubber band that holds it. I has to be the motor. Coincidentally, I just put a new bag in, and I used an off brand, but it fits and it does not seem to be coming from there. It is not making any odd noises.\015

We had this same issue. I noticed it smells like burning plastic. I took it apart and did not find any fundamental problems. Ball bearings on motor are fine, no play.\015\012What I did find was that the motor construction contains lots of plastic. It's made in China. Even the brush holder is plastic. Now, this is unusual to me, as brushes get very hot. However, I did not find any issues of melted or softening plastic when running. I used a laser-guided thermometer and measured about 170 degrees F on the metal portion of the brush holder. Nothing unusual. Some parts reached above 200 degrees F. Again, nothing unusual. The only unusual issue is that many of the parts are mated with plastic parts. That's where I believe the problem lies.\015\012When the motor is new, the brushes don't make full contact. Therefore, full power draw is not achieve until these brushes wear down a bit. After this point, the brushes reach maximum power delivery and reach maximum temperatures. This is why I believe the vacuum didn't exibit any smell until a few months later, at least, for us.\015\012In conclusion, I didn't find anything wrong, except that the motor is cheaply constructed. It isn't going bad and well likely last quite a while, IMHO.\015\012

I just bought the LG200R vacuum. It is working wonderfully but i have only had it a week. I have already had to clean the agitator but this is due to my extremely long hair and apparently i shed a lot. I was wondering if i should be alarmed by the funny smell it leaves in the air. Its not like a burning rubber smell but more like a fresh plastic smell or sorta chemical like smell (hard to describe) and it doesn't need to be on to make this smell it seems to be permeating off the vacuum itself

Motor is sparking and smells like burning rubber. When it first happened I thought the vacuum had something jamming the beater bar. That was the smell it had, like when the belt gets burned. But when we turned it over, it wasn't jamming. Took off the base plate and turned it on. The motor area is sparking and it makes a weird noise (I assume that is because the motor fails and restarts). I looked for loose wires, can't find any. I believe I need some sort of part replaced, maybe even a n

Was hoovering when my DC04 made a funny high pitched noise then a whirring noise, this was accompanied by a smell of burning and a puff of smoke! Almost sounds like it might be a clutch slipping, is this possible or is it more likely to be a motor burn out?

OK... the DC04 doesn't have a clutch. My best guess is that the belt that drives the brush roll has broken. The smell of burning and smoke puff were probably caused by the motor suddenly speeding up when freed of its burden of driving the brush roll. ... Vacuums

BURNING SMELL My DC 07 has suffered from poor suction in the upright position for some time now but this morning it ground to a halt. It was if the motor had burned out. The brush roller stops turning and I can smell the belt burning, then it will catch and start working normal. I looked under the plate to check the belts and they looked okay and no hang ups of string or anything. The only thing that seemed weird was that the smaller belt that actually attaches and turns the roller is a bit loose. The larger belt is tight but looks like its the one that is burning and causing the smell.

Better to replace both belts the smaller one is stretched out thats whyits slipping ,be sure to clean the old rubber off the motor shaft before replacing the belts.it will cause the new belts to run unevevly and go bad before their time ... There has been a burning smell for some time, but we continued to use it as everything was in working order. Sometimes the smell was not even noticeable. Today, however, the smell was intense and the motor kicked off. As it did, it was draining electricity like crazy. The lights dimmed drastically.
