Having problems with your Kirby G4 Bagged Upright Vacuum ?

How do i engage belt

\015 I disengaged the main assembly in order to attach a different hose. Now, I cannot get the vacuum to work again. What am I doing wrong?\015

Answers :

You need to make sure the belt is on the roller correcty, make sure is at the red position when putting the part back on with the belt on the hook, push the pedal to highest (off the ground) position to ensure you put it on correctly, then turn the fixing clip thing to secure it, then once its on turn the panel around to green position, belt will be back on, once you get used to it you'll be ok, if you know this already I apologise in advance :o)

For some reason, when I tried to put the floor vacuum attachment back on and vacuum the carpet, I realized that the belt was not engaging. the belt is in there and not broken, but it is not turning the beater brush. it is just hanging loose around the brush. When I turn the wheel to engage the brush, it picks the belt up, but when I attach the vacuum to the attachment, the brush is just not turning.

Brush Roll belt stops turning durring vacuuming on WindTunnel self-propelled, v belt is a little loose with handle down. Tensioning roll is engaged OK, but fully at the end of its travel. Replaced belts flat and v, but still stops turning even on high carpet setting when vacuuming. Carpet setting and height adjustment appears to be working OK, roll is clean and turns easily when out. Also turns easily until it engages the carpet. Self propel function works just fine.

We have a Hoover upright vacuum cleaner, model Core 7. There is a switch that turns on and off the brush drive. This operates via a cam with a bearing putting pressure on the final drive belt to engage the brush head. My brush head is not turning and with the lever set to engage the drive there is still considerable slack in the final drive belt. There appears to be only a bearing deflecting the belt, should there be a pully or other device mounted on this bearing? There is so much slack a

Yes, there should have been a white plastic sprocket on top of the bearing - in its channel the belt would sit. Unfortunately no parts are available for this unit that can be bought retail - only available by order to dealer repair shops.\012\012\012 ... Hoover Vacuums

My Vacuum DC-17 has just quit sucking. It has been making quite a racket since I had the belt changed at a repair shop several months ago. I was told that the belt was a new design and figured that was why it was making so much noise. it seemed to work fine, was picking up dirt and all, but today, when I started vacumming, I noticed it was not sucking air either with the belt engaged or not. My vacuum is approx. 5 years old.

I have a kirby sentria vaccum carpet shampoo system and I cannot get the shampoo suction head to work! It comes on but the belt is not turning. I have tried taking it off and looking at the assembly but no luck. And I have tried turning the belt engage lever to off and on to see if it makes any diference.

When I vacuum w/ the brush control in the on position it make a really loud noise, almost like a grinding sound. I have looked at it and nothing seems to be wrong, but I notice that the pin that engages the belt seems to vibrate a bit, possibly creating the noise. It started when I accidentally got part of a plastic grocery bag caught in the brush. Could it have stretched a belt? Nothing is caught any other place and it only makes the noise when the brush in in the on position.

Yes, the belt could have been stretched and is now vibrating and hitting other parts and creating a noise if much of the bag got caught under the belt. I have the Eureka 4870 "The Boss" Smart Vac. The beater bar began to turn constantly and can't be shut by moving the Brush Roll Contol to Bare Floor position or the machine to the upright postion. It has also eaten two new belts. A local tech says he has seen this problem whereby the free-wheel assembly that makes contact with the belt to engage the beater bar is misalgned and cannot disengage. It is usually the chassis which would mean replacement of enough parts that would not be worthwhile

When I engage the beater roller it will work for a short time (15-20 seconds) and then squeel loudly as if something is not engaging properly. I checked the roller ends and cleaned them but it seems to roll freely by hand while connected to the belt and then at a time it becomes very hard to turn by hand.

Sounds to me that the motor is shot. There is a main bearing the belt shaft connects to and it sounds like the bearing is seazing and gets worse when it nheats up.
