Having problems with your Kirby G4 Bagged Upright Vacuum ?

I've broken two belts while using the carpet shampooer on my Kirby G4. I figure the belt must be stretched too tight, but I have no clue what I'm doing wrong.

Answers :

If the belts are OEM it is probably not the problem. Be sure the brush roll very freely.

I have two old identical 5842's that I use in the garage and around the house. The belt broke on one so I bought a bag of 2 genuine Eurika "U" belts, which is the correct belt for this vacuum. They were obviously smaller than the original belt because they were not stretched out. When I put the new belt on it lasted about 20 minutes and then came off. I put it back on and ran the vacuum with the cover off to see what was wrong. Everything looked fine except the belt rides to the outside edge of

Not 100% sure this is the remedy for that particular problem, but I would take the time to clean both of the brushes that the belts operate, one on each machine.\015\012Remove the brushes and clean as best you can. I have a Miele S1721 Powerhouse upright vacuum. When the belt broke I took it into the shop (because when i tried to replace the belt, the tension was so tight I couldn't get it back together!!). When I got it home I DISCOVERED THAT THE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT DIDN'T WORK anymore. It seems like it's set really hight, because it no longer contacts and brushes the carpet. So it's now useless. I went back to the shop and the tech denied that there was anything wrong. (I didn't have the vac with me). No

When I vacuum w/ the brush control in the on position it make a really loud noise, almost like a grinding sound. I have looked at it and nothing seems to be wrong, but I notice that the pin that engages the belt seems to vibrate a bit, possibly creating the noise. It started when I accidentally got part of a plastic grocery bag caught in the brush. Could it have stretched a belt? Nothing is caught any other place and it only makes the noise when the brush in in the on position.

Yes, the belt could have been stretched and is now vibrating and hitting other parts and creating a noise if much of the bag got caught under the belt. If you have another belt for this vacuum, please put it on and see if the noise stops. If it does ... Hoover U5780-900 Windtunnel Cyclonic Bagless UprightVacuum

Small belt driving the brush...stretched out with hair accumulated in groove beneath belt. Is there a clutch or other means of tightening the belt. Went to store found belt...same size, therefore previously assumed stretched condition does not appear to be valid. I'm missing something. Any help?

You do not by a belt by size, buy it by model only. A new Hoover belt will generally be very snug when installed. I have an old Hoover vacuum model # U5035-930. The belt broke and I tried replacing the belt myself. I couldn't stretch the belt to attach it to the motor pully. It was belt # 38525-027 M6. Which I got from the previous owner. I took it to a vacuum repair place and he replaced it with belt # 38528-027 J4. I cannot find this belt anywhere.

Belt keeps sliding over on the roller bar and rubbing on plastic parts. Belt is a "U" belt and I am told it should be a "R" belt. Sears sold me a "U" so I will try and find the R tomorrow. What keeps the belt other than tension from sliding onn the roller bar? Could it be that just the wrong belt could cause this??

The belt burnt out and it seems as though the red arrown does not release the belt. Like it is backwards from the green arrow. It had a burning smell and the belt broke. Then the second belt started to burn out when the brush roller wasn't spinning. Not sure what might be wrong. Green light will not come on either.

The brush roller stops turning and I can smell the belt burning, then it will catch and start working normal. I looked under the plate to check the belts and they looked okay and no hang ups of string or anything. The only thing that seemed weird was that the smaller belt that actually attaches and turns the roller is a bit loose. The larger belt is tight but looks like its the one that is burning and causing the smell.

Better to replace both belts the smaller one is stretched out thats whyits slipping ,be sure to clean the old rubber off the motor shaft before replacing the belts.it will cause the new belts to run unevevly and go bad before their time ... I replaced the belt as I have done before on Self-Propelled Vision. When turned on it is very loud and left on too long will smoke and you can smell the belt deteriorating. I do not feel this is a belt issue. There is either something wrong with motor or some kind of friction I am unaware of. How do I check?

The best way to check if the motor is burning or not is to go back into the unit and take the belt off of the motor shaft. If the unit does the same thing and burns or even if the lights flicker when the unit is on, then it is definitely the motor. ... Dirt Devil Vision Turbo W/Bonus Upright Vacuum Vacuum

I changed the belt on my bissell Cleanview revolution 3596 twice and both times the belt burned and starting to smoke. I'm not sure what to do now I have two broken belts what could I be doing wrong?

On our Hoover U6445-900 (Mach 6.9) we replaced the small belt that goes to beater brushes in front of unit. Upon starting, the Hoover quickly got hot and smoky. We shut it off and looked things over carefully, but the second try also resulted in friction heat on the belt. Now it appears the belt may have stretched due to heat and the brushes won't spin. Any ideas?

The belt on my used Eureka Boss 5857 upright slips off the end of the motor shaft every time the vacuum is used. When I turn the brush roll slowly by hand, the belt walks toward the end of the shaft. It looks like there was a plastic projection from the base that snapped off, and maybe that plastic piece used to block the belt from falling off. Do I need to try to reconstruct that plastic piece, or is something else wrong?
