Having problems with your Kirby G4 Bagged Upright Vacuum ?

Transmission not engaging

\015 I have a g-4 kirby, the n/d is hard to shift, und the nutruel has quit functioning but the trans engages foward and reverse when pluged in and on\015

Answers :

In Kirby vacuums with tech drive there is a part called Bracket cam (see it here) that is designed to disengage wheels from transmission. When it starts wearing out Kirby would make crackling noise when on neutral and eventually may not disengage at all. If there was no stage where it was noisy on neutral it may be something else - most likely the pedal assembly broken (see it here). It is not very hard to replace it.

Hoover Upright Bagless WindTunnel does not self propel (U6625-900). Belts are new, Brush turns strongly. Wheels propel forward very weakly and do not reverse when the handle is pulled backward. Is there a mechanical link from the self propel switch to the "transmission" ? Are there any gears that could be worn or not engaging properly?

When I engage the beater roller it will work for a short time (15-20 seconds) and then squeel loudly as if something is not engaging properly. I checked the roller ends and cleaned them but it seems to roll freely by hand while connected to the belt and then at a time it becomes very hard to turn by hand.

Sounds to me that the motor is shot. There is a main bearing the belt shaft connects to and it sounds like the bearing is seazing and gets worse when it nheats up. Brush Roll belt stops turning durring vacuuming on WindTunnel self-propelled, v belt is a little loose with handle down. Tensioning roll is engaged OK, but fully at the end of its travel. Replaced belts flat and v, but still stops turning even on high carpet setting when vacuuming. Carpet setting and height adjustment appears to be working OK, roll is clean and turns easily when out. Also turns easily until it engages the carpet. Self propel function works just fine.

Hoover Upright Vacuum model U5470-900 - The On/Off switch on the handle does not properly engage the power switch deeper in the handle assembly. It appears to ride over the lower switch and doesn't engage it to operate it. If I play with it, I can get it to maybe turn on the vacuum, but, then the upper handle switch won't turn it off. Our current workaround is to use the power cord for on/off operation.

We have a Hoover upright vacuum cleaner, model Core 7. There is a switch that turns on and off the brush drive. This operates via a cam with a bearing putting pressure on the final drive belt to engage the brush head. My brush head is not turning and with the lever set to engage the drive there is still considerable slack in the final drive belt. There appears to be only a bearing deflecting the belt, should there be a pully or other device mounted on this bearing? There is so much slack a

Yes, there should have been a white plastic sprocket on top of the bearing - in its channel the belt would sit. Unfortunately no parts are available for this unit that can be bought retail - only available by order to dealer repair shops.\012\012\012 ... Hoover Vacuums
