Hello,
\015\012
\015\012Thanks for the clarification. I have never seen this problem previously in a Kirby. I wonder if the belt keeps sliding off because it's been stretched out? After about 1-2 years, the belts on the Kirby will stretch out to a point where there can possibly slide off the motor shaft. Have you tried just replacing the belt on the unit first?
\015\012
\015\012If you're sure that it's not the belt that may be stretched out, and you'd like to replace the motor shaft, you certainly may do this. The only problem with this is the motor shaft is not sold by itself as a separate part. The only way to purchase this motor shaft is to purchase the entire fan assembly, which includes a new fan, and the hardware necessary on the fan assembly.
\015\012
\015\012Here's a parts diagram that shows you the motor shaft is sold only in a completely assembly:

\015\012If you haven't already purchased the motor shaft, here's a direct link to the motor shaft and fan assembly on our website:

\015\012
\015\012In terms of installing it, we've actually recorded a video repair on how to replace the fan assembly, which involves removing the motor shaft in order to get the fan off. Since you have to purchase the fan assembly anyways in order get the motor shaft, you may want to go ahead and replace your fan assembly at this time also. Even though your fan may not be broken, on Kirby's the fans can become coated with dirt and fine dust, which can sometimes lead to the Kirby exhausting a bad smell. If you'd rather not replace the fan, you may remove the motor shaft without disassembling the entire machine, you'll just need to secure the fan somehow so that the fan doesn't spin while you're using a nail to turn the motor shaft off.

I have a Kirby Dual Sanitronic '50' Vacuum Cleaner I bought in 1966. The motor does not start when I attach the belt lifter of the rug nozzle. When I remove the rug nozzle and detach the belt from the motor fan shaft the motor starts when I depress the nozzle switch and the power switch . Seems like the brushes in the motor are worn out. I do not have a manual for this unit. Can you assist me as to what newer unit is this compatible to and the problem I'm having at present??

There is a shaft that comes out of the pump of my Bissell 1623-1 Power Steamer with gears on it. The belt to the brush attaches to it. On several occasions the belt has come off the Hoover Windtunnel beater shaft and had to be re-installed. Is there any way to prevent it from slipping off? The shaft seems to be made so that the middle if it is wider(thicker than either the end or the part closer to the motor, which, to me, is a bad design so I don't know how to overcome this problem. I'd be very grateful for a permanent solution to this problem. Thanks in Advance, mas

My Kirby 2HD has started making an odd roaring noise but still works fine. I have taken the front assembly off and cleaned and adjusted the roller and checked the belt. It is quite possible, it just needs lubed. The motor comes in direct contact with dirt so, you have to make sure the front bearing has a drop of oil on it from time to time. If it starts to scream at you within one month, after oiling, the bearing ... Kirby Heritage II Vacuum
