Having problems with your Kirby Generation 3 Bagged Upright Vacuum ?

What is the secret of installing the belt? When I start in the off position & turn it to the belt on position, the belt is not picked up. It appears that the hook is backwards.

Answers :

Kirby has produced a good video that shows you step by step how to change your belt. They show the Sentria model but this procedure is the same for every Kirby model. You will notice in the video that they mention the numbers on the side of the brush roll. These numbers correspond to the length of bristle that sticks out past the brush roll. You would have number one showing on new brush rolls. About every year, as the bristles wear, you would turn the brush so that the next higher number is facing you until you get to number 3.

My machine (Hoover Wind Tunnel - bagless) is only 1 yr. old. The agitator brush doesn't turn all the time. I know it's not supposed to turn when in the upright position. However, it only seems to work when I have the setting on high. When I stop, but have not put the machine in the upright position, it stops again and then slowly starts moving. Could the V-belt be worn out already? In the owner's manual it states that this belt is not normally replaced. The exact same thing happened with my old

Sounds like you should do two things:\015\0121- Remove and clean the beater brush of all debris as best you can. At the end of the brush you will see a hard rubber piece, at both ends, that holds it in place in the body of the vacuum.\015\012Add som ... I have a Hoover Turbo EmPower 4600 and the roller will not turn when we turn on the vacuum. The vacuum is fairly new, and hasn't seen too much use, but now the roller won't turn, so it's not picking anything up. There also doesn't appear to be a belt or any way to take this apart. Can you help me? Thank you!

The gear that turns the dual brushes on my Bissell Spot Lifter 1716 seems to be stripped. The belt looks loose as well, but when I take the belt cover and the brush assembly out, the gear that turns the brushes is loose and appears to be stripped on the cogs. When I turn the machine on the belt turns the gear but the brushes just sit there an vibrate. They make an attempt to turn now and then but not much. Need to get a schematic or the parts so I can order the gear if it is available and th

Placing the handle of my Dyson DC07 into its upright and locked position causes the beater bar to stop turning. It will not start turning until the handle is first lowered to the working position and the Carpet/Bare knob is moved to the Bare Floor position and then back to the Carpet position. Then the beater bar turns until the handle is placed into the upright position. What might be the problem?

Brush Roll belt stops turning durring vacuuming on WindTunnel self-propelled, v belt is a little loose with handle down. Tensioning roll is engaged OK, but fully at the end of its travel. Replaced belts flat and v, but still stops turning even on high carpet setting when vacuuming. Carpet setting and height adjustment appears to be working OK, roll is clean and turns easily when out. Also turns easily until it engages the carpet. Self propel function works just fine.

For some reason, when I tried to put the floor vacuum attachment back on and vacuum the carpet, I realized that the belt was not engaging. the belt is in there and not broken, but it is not turning the beater brush. it is just hanging loose around the brush. When I turn the wheel to engage the brush, it picks the belt up, but when I attach the vacuum to the attachment, the brush is just not turning.

The brush roller stops turning and I can smell the belt burning, then it will catch and start working normal. I looked under the plate to check the belts and they looked okay and no hang ups of string or anything. The only thing that seemed weird was that the smaller belt that actually attaches and turns the roller is a bit loose. The larger belt is tight but looks like its the one that is burning and causing the smell.

Better to replace both belts the smaller one is stretched out thats whyits slipping ,be sure to clean the old rubber off the motor shaft before replacing the belts.it will cause the new belts to run unevevly and go bad before their time ... I think I know what the problem is with your machine. It's a rather lengthy repair, and I'll be happy to photograph it for you (like I do on most of my Fixya answers), but I'd like to know before doing all of that if you still need help, or if you' ... Eureka Smartvac 4870 Bagged Upright Vacuum

We have a Hoover upright vacuum cleaner, model Core 7. There is a switch that turns on and off the brush drive. This operates via a cam with a bearing putting pressure on the final drive belt to engage the brush head. My brush head is not turning and with the lever set to engage the drive there is still considerable slack in the final drive belt. There appears to be only a bearing deflecting the belt, should there be a pully or other device mounted on this bearing? There is so much slack a

Yes, there should have been a white plastic sprocket on top of the bearing - in its channel the belt would sit. Unfortunately no parts are available for this unit that can be bought retail - only available by order to dealer repair shops.\012\012\012 ... Hoover Vacuums

My Kirby Heritage II vacuum is not picking up dirt up out of the carpet like usual, and I have to keep setting it lower to pick anything up. I finally get it to such a low setting that it starts sucking the carpet up and makes a whirring noise, and starts smelling. Every time this happens, we find the belt has been burned. We are wondering if the brush roll inside with the brushes that pick up dirt are worn out and too short?

When I vacuum w/ the brush control in the on position it make a really loud noise, almost like a grinding sound. I have looked at it and nothing seems to be wrong, but I notice that the pin that engages the belt seems to vibrate a bit, possibly creating the noise. It started when I accidentally got part of a plastic grocery bag caught in the brush. Could it have stretched a belt? Nothing is caught any other place and it only makes the noise when the brush in in the on position.

Yes, the belt could have been stretched and is now vibrating and hitting other parts and creating a noise if much of the bag got caught under the belt. If you have another belt for this vacuum, please put it on and see if the noise stops. If it does ... Hoover U5780-900 Windtunnel Cyclonic Bagless UprightVacuum

My Hoover Whisper Cyclonic is collecting the dirt but not taking it into the cylinder. The belt broke and after putting on new belt I dicscovered the cylinder with the brushes attached wasn't turning. After I finally got the cylinder to turn it makes a very very loud noise and also now it doesn't pick up the dirt. The vacuum is less than a year old.

Check the cylinder with brushes does not have hair or carpet fibers causing it to bind. With the belt removed the brush should turn freely and fairly easy. The original belt probably broke because of this. You may have to fully dis-assemble the head ... Dirt Devil Vacuums

Kirby Sentria Hi, I have a new Sentria & used it for the first time today. It was going fine & then I could smell smoke & it started to make a loud noise so I turned it off quickly. If I turn it on it immediately starts making the noise again & I can see it is all lit up inside like something is burning or sparking. I have checked the roller & it is moving & I have checked the fan which is moving & doesn't appear to be damaged in anyway. This product is from the US & we are in the UK & we are us

Hoover Wind Tunnel 7500 Brush not Turning. I have replaced the Brush and the belt. The problem does not seem to be either to me. I believe might be a missing part. The place were the belt hooks on is a metal pole which never seems to grip the belt well. In fact it seems loose most of the time and slips on the brush, causing the belt to eventually burn up. Could there be a missing plastic or rubber piece meant to hold the belt taught  on the metal pole?
