How to remove a Kirby Heritage II Armature

\015 I have a Kirby Heritage II that has stopped working (does not run at all). After disassembly I think one of the carbon brushes has worn down. While I have it disassembled, I would also like to replace the bearings; but, I can't figure out how to get the armature off. I have it torn down so that the armature is on one side of the motor casting and the fan is connected on the other side of the motor casting but I can't see how to get them apart.\015

Answers :

The armature that holds the fan on is reverse threaded. It turns to the right to remove it. You can put a nail or nail punch in the hole on the armature and tap it gently to the right. this should loosen it enough to unscrew. There's a washer, then the fan, and a spacer that fit over the shaft.
