Kirby Heritage II Vacuum Carbon Brush Placement

\015 I had to replace the fan in our vacuum cleaner and unfortunately, before I figured out the proper disassembly procedure I removed the armature from the motor plastic housing. My question concerns the proper location of the carbon brushes in the housing in relation to the armature. Do they just "float" around the commutator or is there a proper location. Are they supposed to be loose? Also I assume that the Finger spring and washer seat in the back of the plastic housing and the end of the armature rest on it. Does the finger spring go in first and then the other washer or vice versa?Any help would be appreciated.Thanks,Garry\015

Answers :

Yes the carbon brushes float on the commutator and are spring loaded. the spring washer goes in the housing first then the other washer. let me know if you have any other questions

Kirby Vacuum Hi Bruce, In my opinion, yes the Kirby would be worth it, as long as you are not replacing the motor. The switch would be the most expensive part besides the motor that would need to be replaced. The switch costs USD 49.99, the cord is roughly $39.99, and the carbon brushes are $29.99. I can easily walk you through any of these repairs should you need help. Kirby's are great vacuum cleaners, that usually last 30+ years. Brand new these machines sell in the US for $1600 or more,

My Kirby Heritage II vacuum is not picking up dirt up out of the carpet like usual, and I have to keep setting it lower to pick anything up. I finally get it to such a low setting that it starts sucking the carpet up and makes a whirring noise, and starts smelling. Every time this happens, we find the belt has been burned. We are wondering if the brush roll inside with the brushes that pick up dirt are worn out and too short?

I have a VAX V12 vacuum cleaner which suddenly stopped. The smell indicated Carbon Brush Problems. I contacted a service agent who told me that it was not possible to change the Carbon Brushes brushes on this model and they would need to change the Motor Unit.. To me this sounds very unlikely. Two questions please. Is it possible to change the Carbon Brushes and how do I get the cabinet apart which looks very difficult. I am well qualified electrically to do this job. Regards James Beech

Took my miele canister vacuum cleaner in for repair because the cord had a break in it creating a short. He said it also needed an inter filter ($12.29) and the carbon brushes were worn out ($21.95). Is that possible? Also wanted to service the motor and put in a new seal ($49.95) Shouldn't that include the inter filter and carbon brushes?

Depending on the age of the vacuum and how much use it gets, the first two are possible. I would question the brushes as they should last for several years.\015\012The servicing is generally for labor only and doesn't include parts. I do reco ... Miele Vacuums
