Having problems with your Miele s558 Silver Moon Vacuum ?

We have a Miele Silver Moon vacuum that isn't

\015 We have a Miele Silver Moon s558 vacuum that isn't picking up cat hair from our carpets. We have two cats (one with medium hair, and the other with very fine, long hair), and medium-deep pile carpet though 80% of our home. After vacuuming, the cat hair ends up in small clumps on the rug but they aren't picked by the large powered head. I either have to hand-pick the small clumps from the rug or use crevice attachment to vacuum the clumps up individually. We change the bag regularly, and it works fine on other surfaces (i.e., plenty of suction power). Am I just expecting too much from a Miele? Does it need service? Is there another vacuum that would meet our needs better? Thank you for your help!\015

Hi dear. There are two type of attachments for this vacuum cleaners to pick up the pets hair, fluff & so on.They call it"Turbo & Power Brush".Turbo brush operates with machines suction & Power one operates with small electric motor which is built in the unit. They work with the same prenciple. There is a belt drives the rotary brush.OK.there are two small yellow screw underneath the unit. Please undo them, take of the cover & clean the rotary brush, check for the belts tension. It should be enough tight to drive the brush. If not ask for spare part from Miele in your country. After cleaning please put it back in order. To test it,attached to the vacuum.Turn the power on for Turbo brush,as long as suction starts, brush should start turning too.For the Power one, there should be power button on the handle to turn it on & off.Press it.It should work.On both of the unit, brush should spin good & strong enough to do the job when it's attached the surface you are vacuuming.Check the brush after each use, cleaned if neccesary. I hope that helps.Thanks.
Sounds like you need to replace the belt. The large power head (SEB 226) that used to be available with the Silver Moon had a rubber belt that needed replacing every 6 months or so. Unfortunately, many people don't know this. Head down to your local Miele dealer and pick up a belt, which should run you about $4. Bring your power head with you, as most Miele dealers will replace the belt for free while you wait. If they don't, here's how you replace your belt. Turn the power head upside-down. Remove the screws from the silver baseplate and lift the rear of it up so that it rotates toward the front of the head and comes free. Now you will see the belt-guard which is covering the belt at the brushroll. Lift it free and set it on top of the silver baseplate so you don't forget to re-install it. Now, there should be four screws at the corners which will hold the top cover of the head on. Remove these, flip the power head right-side-up, and make sure the elbow where you attach your wand is laid all the way down onto your work surface. Now lift the top cover off in the same way as you removed the baseplate. You will see the motor that drives the brushroll. Use a flat-head screwdriver to remove the old belt from the pulley, lift the front of the power head and pull the brushroll down and out of the head. You can take this opportunity to remove hair, thread, etc. from the brushroll. Place your new belt around the pulley on the brushroll, place the brushroll back into the power head, and feed the belt up through the slot. Here's where it gets a bit annoying. First, make sure the belt isn't pinned between the brushroll and the housing. Then, place a flathead screwdriver through the belt from the side opposite the motor pulley. Place the end of the screwdriver over the motor pulley and lever the belt up and onto the pulley. It may take you a few tries, so don't get frustrated. Now, make sure the brushroll spins freely by spinning it by hand. Place the top cover back on. Flip the head back upside down and replace the screws that held the top on, and then make sure to place the belt guard back into place. Replace the metal base plate, screw it back on, and you're in business. Cheers! -R
