The end cap is like a square. Other ends turns fine. Do these end caps come off? If so how? Can't get it to budge. This is exactly what is keep brush roller from turning.

Take a flat head screw driver and pry the end cap off. It will come off. You might have some string or hair around it causing it to not turn. ... Kenmore 25512/ 25513 Progressive Canister Vacuum

Folks, My wife and I own a three-year-old Hoover U6434-900 self-propelled "Wind Tunnel" upright vacuum cleaner. The problem is that, even on the highest setting (front-end as high as possible), it gets bogged-down in even shallow pile carpet to the point that the brush stops. I've cleaned the machine thoroughly, pulling hair, thread, dental floss and such from the brush (and everywhere else), including unscrewing the brush end caps and pulling out the cat hair mats which formed in there.

A cap on one end of the roller brush is centered and turns freely. The one on the other end is not centered and does not turn but does not look broken. It looks like it's supposed to be that way but it doesn't allow the roller brush to turn. How to I solve this?

It's hard to say definitively what the problem is here. Rollers usually have bearings at each end and they can wear or freeze up especially if they are exposed to water. Last night as I was vacuuming, I noticed that the belt stop indicator light was on. I pulled out the hair that had gotten tangled around the brush in hopes of solving the problem. It didn't change things. I then unscrewed the entire bottom piece to take out the brush roller. I removed hair from the end piece of the brush roller and reattached the belt; however, I cannot figure out where the microchip is supposed to go so that I can reassemble the base piece by screwing it back together. I replaced the belt on my Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagless Vacuum and the brush roller rubs and makes a very loud noise when turned on. Without the brush roller in the vacuum, it sounds and runs normal. What could the problem be?
