Chapter 1: Connecting the Wireless-G Broadband Router

Hardware\015\012 Installation

1. Locate an optimum location for the \015\012Broadband Router. The best place for the Broadband Router is usually at \015\012the center of your wireless network, with line of sight to all of your \015\012mobile stations.

2. Fix the direction of the antenna. Try to \015\012place it in a position that will best cover your wireless network. \015\012Normally, the higher you place the antenna, the better the performance \015\012will be. The antenna's position
enhances the receiving sensitivity.

3.\015\012 Connect a standard Ethernet network cable to the Broadband Router’s \015\012Internet port. Then, connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to your\015\012 Cable or DSL Broadband modem.

4. Connect your network PCs or \015\012Ethernet devices to one of the Broadband Router’s numbered ports with a \015\012standard Ethernet network cable.

5. Connect the AC Power Adapter \015\012to the Broadband Router's Power Socket and the other end into an \015\012electrical outlet. Only use the power adapter supplied with the \015\012Broadband Router. Use of a different adapter may result in product \015\012damage.

Chapter 2: Configuring the PCs

The\015\012 instructions in this chapter will help you configure each of your \015\012computers to be able to communicate with the Router.

To do this, \015\012you need to configure your PC’s network settings to obtain an IP (or \015\012TCP/ IP) address automatically, so your PC can function as a DHCP \015\012client. Computers use IP addresses to communicate with the Router and \015\012each other across a network, such as the Internet.

First, find \015\012out which Windows operating system your computer is running.

You\015\012 can find out by clicking the Start button. Read the side panel of the \015\012Start menu to find out which operating system your PC is running.

You\015\012 may need to do this for each computer you are connecting to the Router.\015\012 The next few pages tell you, step by step, how to configure your \015\012network settings based on the type of Windows operating system you are \015\012using. Make sure that an Ethernet or wireless adapter (also known as a \015\012network adapter) has been successfully installed in each PC you will \015\012configure.

Configuring Windows 98 and Millennium PCs

1.\015\012 Click the Start button. Select Settings and click the Control Panel \015\012icon. Double-click the Network icon.

2. On the Configuration tab,\015\012 select the TCP/ IP line for the applicable Ethernet adapter. Do not \015\012choose a TCP/ IP entry whose name mentions DUN, PPPoE, VPN, or AOL. If \015\012the word TCP/ IP appears by itself, select that line. Click the \015\012Properties button.

3. Click the IP Address tab. Select Obtain an \015\012IP address automatically.

4. Now click the Gateway tab, and \015\012verify that the Installed Gateway field is blank. Click the OK button.

5.\015\012 Click the OK button again. Windows may ask you for the original Windows\015\012 installation disk or additional files. Check for the files at \015\012c:windowsoptionscabs, or insert your Windows CD-ROM into your CD-ROM \015\012drive and check the correct file location, e.g., D:win98, D:win9x, etc. \015\012(if “D” is the letter of your CD-ROM drive).

6. Windows may ask \015\012you to restart your PC. Click the Yes button. If Windows does not ask \015\012you to restart, restart your computer anyway.

Configuring \015\012Windows 2000 PCs

1. Click the Start button. Select \015\012Settings and click the Control Panel icon. Double-click the Network and \015\012Dial-up Connections icon.

2. Select the Local Area Connection \015\012icon for the applicable Ethernet adapter (usually it is the first Local \015\012Area Connection listed). Double-click the Local Area Connection. Click \015\012the Properties button.

3. Make sure the box next to Internet \015\012Protocol (TCP/ IP) is checked. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/ IP), \015\012and click the Properties button.

4. Select Obtain an IP address \015\012automatically. Once the new window appears, click the OK button. Click \015\012the OK button again to complete the PC configuration.

5. Restart \015\012your computer.

Configuring Windows XP PCs

The following \015\012instructions assume you are running Windows XP with the default \015\012interface. If you are using the Classic interface (where the icons and \015\012menus look like previous Windows versions), please follow the \015\012instructions for Windows 2000.

1. Click the Start button and then\015\012 the Control Panel icon. Click the Network and Internet Connections \015\012icon. Then click the Network Connections icon.

2. Select the \015\012Local Area Connection icon for the applicable Ethernet adapter (usually \015\012it is the first Local Area Connection listed). Double-click the Local \015\012Area Connection. Click the Properties button.

3. Make sure the \015\012box next to Internet Protocol (TCP/ IP) is checked. Highlight Internet \015\012Protocol (TCP/ IP), and click the Properties button.

4. Select \015\012Obtain an IP address automatically. Once the new window appears, click \015\012the OK button. Click the OK button again to complete the PC \015\012configuration.

If you would like more information on setting up \015\012your connection, please post your questions and I will surely respond.

Also\015\012 for any clarification, you can email me at [email protected]

Best\015\012 regards.
