Having problems with your Dyson DC08 Cylinder Bagless Canister Cyclonic Vacuum ?

Loss of suction

\015 Almost immediately after switching on there is a sound as if a valve which should be open partially or totally closes. There is a reasonable amount of suction at the end of the open ended nozzle but almost none with any attachment.\015

DYSON DC08 ROOTCYCLONE Loss of suction problem.

I had this exact problem and solved it.
No offense to Dyson Customer Service, but that advice isn't nearly enough to explain how to clean the cyclone. I used to work in Customer Service for an electronics company and I never let anyone down because of clear and precise instructions.
So, here is my advice:

Remember properly where all the screws go and how the bits fit together. It's important so that there is no loss of suction due to improper replacement of parts.

Step 1
Remove the canister from the vacuum cleaner and take off the clear bottom bit - the container for dirt. Clean that out well, you can use water but MAKE SURE IT DRIES COMPLETELY.

Step 2
Pop off the conical bit at the bottom of the cyclone. It isn't held by any screws, just nudge it out of place.

Step 3
You will see three holes amongst the vacuum entry holes. These three holes have screws in them. Unscrew those.
The type of screws used are star-like, but I used a small flat-head screwdriver. Make sure the edges of the flat-head fit perfectly into the edges of the slot on the screw. This prevents grinding and damaging the screw.

Step 4
Turn the canister over, the grey handle conceals three screws. Two on top and one beneath the bottom of the handle at it's base. When you remove the two screws that are visible, you can gently pop off the handle from the canister. First pull the handle up slightly, then the hook unlocks at the base, then push the handle away from the air inlet hole.

Step 5
Turn the canister over again. The bit where you removed three screws should come off easily. Beneath that, you will see two more screws, holding the top bits together. Remove those screws.
Then, all of the cyclone is loose and you can clean each bit separately. Again, you can use water, but let it dry very well.

Step 6
Put it all back together.
Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Sounds as through your filter is blocked or there is a blockage in the machine. If the air is having difficulty getting through the filter, it will force the bleed valve to open whcih protects the motor from over heating, hence the noise you are hearing.

Try washing the filter and checking for blockages throughly following the instructions in the user guide or on our website at www.dyson.co.uk/support.

I hope that this information is useful to you.

Kind regards

My Dyson DC14 Animal doesn't have the suction it used to. The piece in the back on the bottom - a flap it appears - stays open now, causing the machine to make a louder noise than usual. At first, if I put my hand on the flap opening it would close, allowing for normal suction. Now, it stays "open" permanently", causing the loss of suction.
