Brushes stopped The brushes stopped turning while using the cleaner. I removed the brushes to see if the spindle was broken, it wasn't. I then removed the top plastic cover and checked the switch that engages the brushes; it didn't seem to be moving correctly. There's one spring on the switch - should there be two? Or do you think something has broken on the inside? Thanks for any help
Most likely the turbine is bad, it may just be clogged up, you can take it apart and clean it out real good. That may work, but it may not. Sometimes it is best to replace the turbine. ... Hoover F7431-900 SteamVac Vacuum
We have a Hoover upright vacuum cleaner, model Core 7. There is a switch that turns on and off the brush drive. This operates via a cam with a bearing putting pressure on the final drive belt to engage the brush head. My brush head is not turning and with the lever set to engage the drive there is still considerable slack in the final drive belt. There appears to be only a bearing deflecting the belt, should there be a pully or other device mounted on this bearing? There is so much slack a
Yes, there should have been a white plastic sprocket on top of the bearing - in its channel the belt would sit. Unfortunately no parts are available for this unit that can be bought retail - only available by order to dealer repair shops.\012\012\012 ... Hoover Vacuums

Just purchased this Dyson dc24 today. brush doesn't spin after gettin tangled in a cord. removed the cord from the brush OK. I have several times: removed the brush and replaced it OK. pushed the red button by the brush. pressed the brush power switch.

Hoover steamvac Spinscrub F7222-900 brushes do not engage. Brushes will spin when unit is laid down and the brushes are pushed upward, forcing the male brush linkage into the female receptacle , but when the unit is stood up it disengages. Turning the switch on and off does not make a difference.

My Dyson DC 14 is making the horrible "ratcheting"sound only when the brush is engaged on the carpet setting. I have cleaned the brush, so there are no obstructions, the canister is empty and properly on the unit. I checked to make sure all of the "traps" and hoses are clear of obstructions, the belt is on the brush securely and moves freely, the brush itself spins freely, but there is still the "ratcheting" noise. Any other suggestions?
Our DC33 was making the same ratcheting sound immediately upon placing the cleaner/brush head on the carpet. We carefully pulled the beater/brush bar out of the vacuum. Once removed, we pulled the black plastic end off of the center rod. We discovere ... Dyson DC14 Animal Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

My Dyson DC15 has suddenly become very reluctant to turn left. This is only the case when it is switched on and irrespective of whether the roller brush is running or not. When the cleaner is switched off it behaves as normal as far as steering is concerned. There is no obvious problem with the ball or steering swivel mechanism. Any ideas ?

You really need to take the sole plate back off and make sure the belt is running exactly where it's supposed to go and not looped over a piece of plastic or anything. I get plenty of suction at the hose, and none at the brushes. Also, the vacuum will not remain upright when I push it up. It appears that the part that switches the suction from the hose to the brush area is not engaged.

I have a dyson dc07 with a malfuncitoning clutch diagnosed here on fixya. I've replaced the clutch and the grinding noise when the clutch is engaged for carpet and non rotating brush problem presists. This is after replacement of the clutch with a new part. Install of the new part went well and there are no otehr apparent problems with the unit. Ideas? The unit is only a couple years old and not used that much on carpet. For an expensive vacuum I'm not that impressed with it at this point.
