Electrolux oxygen wand won't telescope

Telescopic wand My wife's Electrolux Oxygen has a telescoping wand that expanded and contracted. All one had to do was slide a button and the lower tube slid inside the larger upper tube. Now the button no longer moves whatever was inside to allow the expansion/contraction to happen. How do I fix this situation? The wand assembly hardly seems to be made with repairs in mind. This method of manufacturing is annoying. Thanks, Eric
