The motor overheats and shuts off. This annoying because it has done it at least 5 times today during normal vacuuming. It shuts off easily when you use the hose and canister to clean the steps or around the floor. What can I do to alleviate this problem?

I have a Hoover, Steam spin scrub, Model F5897-900. Only used it a couple times and the motor gave out. First started being noisy then a bad smell. It did seem noisier that what I would expect from the start but I didn't realize it was a problem with the shaft of the motor. I took it apart and found the motor shaft wasn't true and causing sparks. The motor looks like it can not be taken apart and repaired. This seems like a default from the beginning but it is past warranty. Also noti

Motor My vacuum cut out as I was using it. After some experimenting I found that the circuit reset had gone off. When I tried a second time while near the motor , there was a flash and again the motor shut off. At this time I am guessing that the motor is faulty. The central vacuuming is approximately 12 years old.
If it tripped the reset again, I would probably agree with you. Check out centralvacuum.com for another motor. They aren't the cheapest, but they have excellent support. Good Luck!! ... Easy Flo EF1400 Central System Vacuum
My 20" Patton electric fan has stopped working. I use it for animal cooling and it operates in dusty conditions. I suspect that the motor is shot. Is it worthwhile to replace the motor and are motors even available?

I was just using my Bosch 1450W bagged vacuum and all of a sudden, the motor just shut down. No warning, no problems. The light still turns on, but the motor is unresponsive. There is a clean bag and filter, and nothing caught in the front roller. The motor sounded fine - no shaking, or weird frequency variations. There were no weird smells, just a little bit of heat, but nothing beyond normal. I've had this thing for several years, and never had a bit of trouble with it. Any suggestions

The belt on my used Eureka Boss 5857 upright slips off the end of the motor shaft every time the vacuum is used. When I turn the brush roll slowly by hand, the belt walks toward the end of the shaft. It looks like there was a plastic projection from the base that snapped off, and maybe that plastic piece used to block the belt from falling off. Do I need to try to reconstruct that plastic piece, or is something else wrong?

I have an Electrolux LITE upright carpet cleaner - about 15 years old. Suddenly last night when using it, from the normal motor (whooshing) sound, the motor suddenly went very slow and with a slight grinding sound. Recently my central vac system started making a louder than usual and laboured sound when in uise, enough so that I took note and inspected the canister and motor while running. The motor was trowing off blue sparks and looked like it could 'POP' at any moment. I will not risk using it until I know what the problem is and how to repair it. My assumption is the motor needs to be replaced. The system came with the resale house I bought 3 yrs ago but I do not know the age of the system itself.
I have a Eureka Maxima, this was a gift to me, but I have to say it is the worst vacuum I have ever used. Not only do I have a problem with the suction and the filter getting clogged, but it overheats - it takes me all day to vacuum my house, because the darn thing overheats after every room. Besides for tossing it off a cliff and buying a better vacuum, what can I do?

After using the vac for 10 minutes or so, the motor starts turning on and off with greater frequency the longer I let it run. Eventually it is on and off so frequently that it has no power. Would this possibly be the 24V relay? I have checked the breaker on the unit and it is not tripped. Does the motor have a thermal overload switch separate from the breaker?
No it dosen't. I fix central vacs all the time and relays usally don't do what you described. They either go out all the way and won't turn on or they will trip and you will have to push the breaker back in. What is probably happening is you have a s ... Electrolux Centralux Vacuum
