Hoovwer vacuum model U5755-900. How to replace power cord?

Answers :

Unplug the vacuum cleaner from its electrical power source and remove all of the on-board vacuuming tools from their compartments.
\015\012Remove the screws in the back of the handle where the cord inserts into the appliance. Set aside the handle and the screws in a safe place where they can't roll away and become lost
\015\012Remove the backplate below the handle by extracting the screws that hold it in place
\015\012Follow the cord to the two connection points on the motor
\015\012Unscrew the two wires on the old cord from the posts on the motor and remove the old cord from the vacuum housing and handle assembly. If the cord ends are soldered to the motor, as may be the case on some models, cut the cord with wire cutters about 4 inches from the motor
\015\012Thread the ends of the new cord through the handle assembly and the backplate.
\015\012Tie an overhand knot in the new cord about 6 inches from the end. The knot will catch against the inside of the back plate when the vacuum is reassembled, preventing the cord from being pulled out of the motor
\015\012Strip about 1 inch of insulation from the two wires on the end of the new cord.
\015\012Connect the purple wire on the new cord to the purple wire post on the motor by wrapping the wire around the post and tightening the screw. If attaching to a cut power cord, strip about 1 inch of insulation from the purple wire on the old cord and twist the wire underneath to the wire of the new cord, then wrap securely with electrical tape
\015\012Connect the white wire of the new cord to the orange wire on the old cord in the same manner, using electrical tape to seal the connection, then tighten with a screwdriver
\015\012Reattach the backplate to the vacuum housing with screws and pull gently on the cord so the knot rests against the inside of the backplate
\015\012Pull the cord up through the handle assembly and reattach the handle with the screws saved in Step 2.
\015\012Now, plug it in and try it out

The power cord on a vacuum cleaner often undergoes a good deal of wear\015\012and tear. It is not uncommon to see nicks, frays, and damaged areas on\015\012the cord that may or may not cause power issues. Regardless of whether\015\012the power source has been compromised, when a power cord begins to show\015\012visible signs of damage, it needs to replaced. The process of replacing\015\012a power cord is not exceptionally difficult, but it needs to be done\015\012correctly to ensure safe operation.

  1. Unplug the vacuum. Never attempt to work on any appliance that is connected to a power source.\015\012\011\011\011\011\011\011\011
  2. \015\012
  3. Use\015\012the screwdriver (it will likely need to be a Phillips) to disassemble\015\012the casing area where the power cord adjoins with the vacuum. Follow\015\012the cord to where it meets up with the motor. Make careful note of the\015\012alignment the cord is positioned in.\015\012\011\011\011\011\011\011\011
  4. \015\012
  5. Cut\015\012the cord roughly 3 inches from the point of attachment using the wire\015\012cutters if the cord is soldered on. If the cord is attached by a\015\012bracket, screws, or the like, unfasten the switches, clips, screws or\015\012brackets and detach the cord. The wires will most likely be wrapped\015\012around connection posts, so just unwrap them with some small pliers.\015\012\011\011\011\011\011\011\011
  6. \015\012
  7. Put the new cord inside the vacuum in the same alignment as the old one. Refasten any brackets to secure it in place.\015\012\011\011\011\011\011\011\011
  8. \015\012
  9. Remove\015\012roughly an inch of insulation from the end of the new cord using the\015\012wire strippers. If the cord fastens to the motor with brackets, wrap\015\012the two exposed wires around the two connection posts. Refasten the\015\012clips/brackets around the connection point. If you had to cut the old\015\012cord, strip an inch of insulation off the remaining stub. Twist the\015\012exposed wired with the wires from the new cord, and tightly wrap the\015\012area with electrical tape.\015\012\011\011\011\011\011\011\011
  10. \015\012
  11. \015\012\011\011\011\011\011\011\011\011\015\012\011\011\011\011\011\011\011\011\015\012\011\011\011\011\011\011\011\011Reassemble the outer casing of the vacuum.

Hope helps with this.

Hoover Vacuum My Hoover cannister model s3614 "runabout powermax" suddenly lost power to the agitator roller in the rug brush. Where the wire cord enters the power brush, the covering has rubbed off exposing the wires which are not bare but still have their own covering. For a while the power came and went as I manipulated the wires but finally died. Is this something I can fix myself or is it going to be an expensive professional repair? (Warrantee has elapsed.)
